TSW needs a steam locomotive, personally, some form of British one. You may ask why?

Imagine the possibilities within multiplayer (which is coming 'soon') for a steam loco - separate driver & fireman undertaking their duties on the footplate. Getting outside the loco and doing oiling/lubrication, soot cleaning, coupling and water filling would be great to see also. Combined with possible signalmen & other crew for a heritage railway would make a really great & interactive simulation.

Not only for multiplayer but for graphical & physical improvements using the Unreal Engine.

Overall i think they would add a lot of user interaction & playability especially on multiplayer.

Lets just hope these beautiful locomotives get added soon!

I have made several proposals regarding steam locomotives for these exact reasons. They would be so much fun to operate with a friend as well as be visually appealing to the eye with UE4.
We can only hope it'll happen someday...

    Cheers,

An American or British route would be great.
    Suggestions (America):
UP (maybe Sherman Hill/Wasatch Grade in the 1940s and 50s) (Engines: Big Boy, Challenger, FEF, 4-12-2, etc.)
Santa Fe Route (Cajon or something) (Engines: 3751-Class 4-8-4, 2900-Class 4-8-4, Hudson, 2-10-10-2 Mallet, etc.)
Norfolk and Western Route (Engines: Y3- or Y6-Class, A-Class, J-Class, etc.)
Pennsylvania Route (Horseshoe Curve or another route) (Possible engines: H10 Consolidation, M1A/B Mountain, Duplex, 2-8-8-2 Mallet, 2-10-0 Decapod, 2-10-4 Texas, CC2s 0-8-8-0 Mallet, B6 0-6-0 Switcher, etc.)
New York Central Route: (Engines: J1 or J3 Hudson, Dreyfuss Hudson, Empire State Express Hudson, Commodore Vanderbilt Hudson, Niagara, etc.)
Baltimore and Ohio Route (Engines: EM1, Hudson, etc.)

    Suggestions (British):
    East Coast Mainline
    Great Western Railway
    LNER
    LMS
Possible Engines: LMS Black Fives, Flying Scotsman (LNER A3 Pacific), LNER A4 Pacific (Mallard or others), GWR Castle, LNER A1 Tornado, GWR Pannier Tank, etc.

I scanned the builder's drawings from the Locomotive Cyclopedia of American Engineering of 1938 and I found the trailing truck frame drawing on Google. And, I'm also waiting for the SP GS-3 4-8-4 drawings now that USPS found my package and are sending it to me now.

Finally found a tutorial to help lower the graininess to much more like the real castings are like. Still need to adjust the UV smoothing groups.

Looks fab! Personally American steam doesn't blow my whistle but i find it great to see some form of steam loco in development - maybe better progress that DTG so far ;)

    Excelent work, Logan.

Personally, I'd love to see a Black 5, 9F or 8F be made for TSW first, just so that they could go with the Somerset West route already present in the game.

Well from what i've been told steam locomotives aren't sure how to make them work properly. Just like the AI issue and the cold and dark modes.

Here's the early build of the Smokebox front with reflector chrome and a very hardly noticeable headlight glass.

This is awesome! Imagine having a 1940's era mainline American route for TSW in steam and all its glory! I hope DTG are very interested in your work. If they can get the physics at least 95% right I will be interested in buying this.

    Thanks for sharing.

Okay guys, What should I do? Should I build the inside of the smokebox with all the parts and pieces to it or should I leave it as a solid mesh?

Unless you plan to make the Smokebox door openable, I'd suggest leaving it as one mesh for optimisation.

Okay, I think I'll do two versions, one for optimization and one for those who wan't to see the inside of a smokebox(Maybe build a scene with it in the shops).

Just an idea for a steam locomotive but with the announcement of the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust building Gresley class V4 No. 3403 why not try and tag in with this and create the loco for the game and buy a part or fund the project at the same time. Not only does it promote TSW game/Dovetail but it also helps the trust with their project. Just an idea and I'm sure its much more difficult but its something to ponder.

Sorry, but I only do American Steam, due to I don't have to pay hundreds of dollars in shipping for the builder's drawings.
