I was wondering why there are only 3 platforms available in München hbf out of the 17 in the station?? München looks very empty. Maybe some kind of mod like SEHS would be great.
Developing the systems for all 17 platforms when they only put in enough services to use three would be counterproductive...
Pero una estación como Munich, donde los trenes van y vienen a cada minuto. One of the largest stations in Germany. Ver solo 3 trenes allí es muy pobre.
Yet they go put 1,000 working signals in areas around Munich HBF that you wouldn't use in the game. That seems counterproductive as well and is probably a factor as to why the framerate for last gen isn't great around that area
"Last gen"... in the PC forum? I agree they did seem to overkill on the signals and I never worked out what for
They probably could've put fake signals or maybe a texture or something. I get that Munich HBF is a busy station in real life with many different trains and services but if all the lines that use the station or around the station are not simulated, it just makes adding all those things unnecessary and probably hurted performance on last gen consoles. Just like making more platforms in Munich usable wouldn't make sense as there is only one ICE line and a few regional express services that wouldn't even use all 17 platforms that would all go to Ausburg HBF and beyond
Absolutely. I mean make them a point of light by all means, but no need for them (and the junctions) to work unless it's included in the timetable
It would be daft to reply to this thread in a console forum. It wouldn’t make any sense to those who read it.. The question is really relevant to all platforms. Although I play on Xbox One, I often reply to threads in the PC and Playstation forums if it is an issue that affects all platforms equally. Unfortunately there isn’t a general forum that serves all three.
The framerate is bad in the Munich area primarily because of the amount and density of OHLE. This was mentioned on several streams. That combined with the amount of track, switches, assets, and general rail traffic causes the bad framerate. That occurs because the game becomes heavily reliant on single-threaded CPU performance while GPU usage goes down. If you enable -DX12 (only do this if you know what you're doing), then you will see FPS double or maybe even triple in Munich since DX12 spreads CPU load across more cores.
With all layers ICE trains can sometimes get blocked by a RE train in München. While so many empty tracks and platforms are available, every single train has to take a same route. Weird. However they literally made a fake Leipzig Hbf in RT. When they finally want to add more services after all these years, they cannot because there's no real tracks. Therefore I guess they just make the tracks for now and add useable routes afterward if needed (like HRR got a new route for IC).
Yeh I guess if the train is blocking a platform, the dispatcher would direct that train to another track.
Do you want a straight answer? Because TSW is a project adapted to run also on consoles. However, this also has positive aspects. You have thought of one of the negative aspects in the title of this thread. Koln Hbf Frankfurt Hbf Notice how it all looks bigger and fuller?
As far as I'm aware, the ICE and RE services using only certain platforms and tracks at Munich is prototypical to real life operations. You'll notice this if you watch some railfan videos at Munich HBF, such as the one I linked above. They seem to direct the ICE services to use the platforms toward the southern end of the main concourse, these would be gleiss/platforms 11 - 20. I'm not saying that's what they use all of the time, but that does seem to be the general pattern, and I assume that's what DTG noticed as well. However, (and this should really be obvious), the reason why the other platforms don't get used is because not all of the lines are replicated in game. Munich is a very busy station, seeing plenty of long distance InterCity services and plenty of regional traffic as well, but only the services that go between Munich and Augsburg are represented. Had the rest of the lines been modeled as well, you'll of course see a fuller station, however now we run into the performance issues and potential problems with the dispatcher. A more "straight answer" is that the PC's are not immune to performance problems. They have issues just like consoles do. The difference is the amount of headroom each system has to cope with all the resources, but that does not mean that everyone on PC has an RTX 3080. There's still a performance problem on each system, even on PC. If and when these do get addressed, they can always add in extra traffic and services without doing too much additional work. That's the reason why there's all those functional signals just sitting there, ready and waiting to be used. The routes in TSW, just like Munich, are done with future-proofing in mind. If and when we'll see changes is another question.
Also keep in mind that the near future of TSW2 (TSW3?) will have to contend with the Xbox Series S (a console created mainly for retro gaming nostalgics) and also remember that on consoles the Munchen-Augsburg still has about 300 Services of the 427 present on PC and in Munchen still lag a lot. Of course, in the future it will be better (will they rewrite everything and add Munchen underground station?). The point is that no one has yet told us if it will happen in 1 year or in 10. The fact is that on TSW I have always missed the feeling that you get when you enter or leave a large station. See NY Penn, Jamaica, Munchen Hbf, London St. Pancras, etc, because they are all deserted. TSW does not give you the perception of having a large railway yard in front of you. And the Scenario Planner does not allow us to place/parking trains and rolling stock (fillers) along the railway especially in the proximity of large railway stations such as those of Munchen Hbf or Koln Hbf areas (but also the more modest Essen Hbf and Hagen Hbf).
Well, but especially since the release of the BR 101 the three platform restriction in scenario planer is somewhat... how to explain it in english...Aachen has 5 or 6 usable platforms, Köln has got 8 possible platforms in scenario planner...
It also would not be very satisfying in terms of gameplay, since all these other trains would turn north or south and run off the map from Pasing or before.
It would be satisfying to have other AI on the route that did turn off/join before and after Pasing as in Real Life. Or do you think that just going back and forth in to an empty station looks good?
