Hello community! I know this poll might be obsolete, but I'm curious of the results nonetheless. Serious suspicion has arisen that DTG are reusing TSxx textures/assets for TSW. Though, I personally don't mind reusing textures/assets with a bit of improvement, but I want to know your opinion. So vote away people! Feel free to give arguments/thoughs in a reply
I would change the poll... Yes it's OK for old assets to be brought across with maybe no update right now, but as the game builds so should the assets so, bring them across and update them later should also be an option
ARuscoe I'd just put that under 'Yes with improvement', I didn't want to add that cause I thought it'd give inconclusive results. Good point though... But I'll leave it as is.
Wouldn't TS20xx assets have to be improved in order to be used in TSW, since the two sims rely upon different basic graphics engines?
100% they’ve done this. There’s a couple of absolute standouts in GWE & NEC that are clearly of a much lower quality than everything around it. I grabbed a screenshot yesterday of one in NEC.
Kuju Asset TS20XX asset TS20XX asset (that one is usually in the distance though, so it's use is fairly ok)
Reusing assets is a standard thing to do. A good asset is a good asset and it doesn't matter which engine it's rendered in. Of course, the assets can be upgraded to include additional map types that are available in the UE4 engine and perhaps have a few more polys spent on detail. An example of the DTG art department failing quite badly is the van from RS days, which is an absolute abomination. It's a very poor asset by current standards. It should never have made it into the game, it's as simple as that. But it gets worse, because it's not a little used asset found far from the track, it's probably been used in GWE over 100 times and it's even placed next to some really nice models in game and it just highlights how poor it is. I don't understand how it was allowed into the game and not picked up by someone and replaced with a better asset. I could model a much better looking van asset in a couple of hours. Even if you don't have the man power, you could buy a generic white van asset from somewhere like TurboSquid for £50 or so. The difference in quality between the cement mixer and the van is brutally apparent.
This is why I hope we don’t recycle station assets including infrastructure. The difference in quality is huge, TSXX assets look so square and blocky - just look at those wheels and headlights. I’d rather wait a bit longer for a properly modelled asset rather than one being imported from TS.
