Introducing the LOSSAN Rail Corridor route upgrade. This route is essentially a remake of the classic "Pacific Surfliner (PS)" route for train simulator. The primary aim is to rebuild the track layout and bring it in line with some recently completed / currently in the works double tracking projects. A list of the real world projects involved and where I am up to with them in the sim are as follows. Items shown as completed are done in real life and in the sim, with a couple of exceptions - see list for details. 1. CP San Onofre to CP Pulgas - double tracking, new signals, bridge replacements - completed. 2. CP Puller to CP Westbrook - double tracking, Santa Margarita bridge replacement - completed. 3. CP Eastbrook to CP Shell - double tracking, San Luis Rey river bridge replacement - completed. 4. Oceanside double tracking - completed. 5a. Oceanside Transit Center - additional platforms and track - completed. 5b. Oceanside Transit Center - new parking garage - complete. 5c. Oceanside Transit Center - stub track and additional southern x-over - completed. 6. Carlsbad Village station - double track, new platforms, curve easement for higher speeds (this is due to be done before 2025) - completed. 7. Carlsbad Village station - new parking structure - completed. 8. Carslbad area - double track installed all the way to Oceanside, gradients eased slightly, new bridge over Agua Hediona Lagoon. In the sim extras I have done - Added a basic station for Coast highway station - Oceanside. Additional buildings in Oceanside town. ADDITIONAL NOTES - Item 6 - this project is not due to be done until 2025 I believe - however once I started it, I had done too much when I realised the timescale for the real world changes, so I have kept the new trackage in the route. Item 8 - I have done many scenery changes in Carlsbad Village including adding new buildings, new retaining walls by the Army/Navy football field, terrain adjustment, terrain recolouring, upgraded level crossing gates and signalling. I have also added a railfanning area complete with benches next to the Carslbad Village visitor center! STILL TO DO... 9. Carlsbad Poinsettia - new parking structure. Additional buildings. 9a. Carlsbad Poinsettia - track 3 build. 10. CP Ponto to CP Moonlight - double track. 11. Leucadia Blvd (Encinitas) - grade separation (underpass). 12. Encinitas station - new parking garage. 13. CP Moonlight to CP Swami - double track. 14. CP Cardiff to CP Craven - double track. 15. Solana Beach station new parking garage. 16. San Diequito - bridge replacement, double track. 17. Del Mar Fairgrounds platform - still working out where this will be located - no timescale. 18. Sorrento Valley - double track. 19. Penasquitos - double track, bridge replacement. 20. Sorrento to Miramar - double track phase 1. 21. Sorrento to Miramar - double track phase 2 and curve easements. 22. Removal of real world disused wye opposite Washington St station in SD - it's now been turned into an office park. Side Projects within the route: a. Replace all default PS Route signals with newer ones from the Miami - West Palm Beach route. b. Complete the track upgrades - I am using the Miami route tracks. c. Line speed improvements - there are plans for passenger trains to become 100mph on many parts of the route where new track has been laid and curves / gradients changed. d. Complete rebuild of the tracks at Los Angeles Union station and San Diego station. e. Additional track from San Diego to MTS Yard / Naval base area. f. Scenery upgrades. Some of the remaining projects have just been completed in the real world and are shown on google maps so I will add them to the sim shortly. The first release of the route should be uploaded here in due course. A few things to test first. Screenshots... Carlsbad Village original Carlsbad Village rebuilt (additional platform and eased curve). Oceanside Transit Ctr original Oceanside Transit Ctr rebuilt (new platform and parking garage)
Looking good so far! I've lived along this route my whole life, and it's great to see someone updating the TS rendition to modern standards!
Looking forward to it. Always nice when an older route gets an update and brought up to modern day standards.
Today's progress screenshot, after a lot of hard work the route is starting to shape up nicely. Part of the new SD Trolley extension towards University City.
Tonight's finished update.... Part of the new San Diego Trolley extension heading towards University City. The trolley crosses the Amtrak line in Rose Creek. The new bridge took me an age to build because I only have one photograph of it.
This route in it's first stage of rebuild is now in the Steam library. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2409360812 I will be continuing building the route throughout 2021 so please be aware there is still a lot to update.
Looking forward to seeing the progress toward the finished project be made. Keep up the good work mate!
Wow.....I just switched to pc and can't wait to get started on this game. I love seeing all the amazing work people are doing on this! Noob question- how hard is it to apply mods to the game?
Depends on the mod, most are just drag and drop into the main Railworks folder, then apply the necessary geometry files (geopcdx) in the correct folders, as those are copyrighted and cannot be distributed legally. But of course the best way to make sure is to read the accompanying readme text files with each mod. You'll also get the occasional self-installer.
At least to me, far more straightforward and easier then Trainz. ... And on that note, I've just uttered a no-no word for the die hard TS-Classic-and-TSW-and-nothing-else crowd so I'll take my leave.
Trainz is a good alternative sometimes if you want to just do something different, but it's not as realistic. Run 8 is probably the most realistic simulator but has the worst graphics, only rivaled by OpenBVE. OpenBVE I use for simulating transit equipment, and to be honest has the worst graphics out of any Train Simulator.
It was a work in progress however I've binned it and started afresh. Expect a much better reworked re-release later this year.
