The Rhine Railway runs from Mannheim to Rastatt, via Karlsruhe, and was opened in 1870 as an alternative route to the Baden Mainline. The line originally ran between Graben-Neudor and Karlsruhe, following a more western path to its current one, and is now called the Hardt Railway, partly used by lines S1 and S11 of the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn

In 1895, the current route was opened as far as Karlsruhe and extended to Rastatt. Being entirely within the Upper Rhine Plain, the line is almost entirely straight and there are no major engineering structures anywhere along its path, and runs almost parallel with the Rhine Valley Railway, which runs from Mannheim

    the locos included:

The DB BR 425 and 426 EMUs are a class of electric multiple units built by a consortium of Siemens, Bombardier and DWA and operated by DB Regio in Germany. They are essentially the same vehicle, but the class 425 EMU consists of four segments, while the class 426 EMUs only have two parts

ICE 3, or Intercity-Express 3, is a family of high-speed electric multiple unit trains operated by Deutsche Bahn. It includes classes 403, 406 and 407, which are known as ICE 3, ICE 3M and New ICE 3 respectively.

    upload_2021-5-10_18-12-22.jpeg

Classified as BR 189 by Deutsche Bahn, the Class is one of only a handful equipped with all four electric systems commonly used in mainland Europe and various light formations, making it capable of running on most of Europe’s rail network, including across Germany, Austria, Italy, Netherlands, Poland and Hungary. The Class was originally ordered by DB Cargo and is used primarily on freight operations with a top speed of 87mph (140 km/h).

A prominent landmark on the route is the Mannheim Rangierbahnof, is in the top 5 of Europe’s largest freight marshalling yards, stretching six kilometres (3.7 miles) and covering 200 hectares, and also an important freight exchange for the Southern Rhine Valley.

this freight yard if filled to the brink with all sorts of locomotives, this route will definitely have a lot of loco add ons added to it such as the
    DB BR 140
    And DB BR 151
And then the DB BR 294

    LAYERING:

the dB br 185.2 RAILION, DB , and MRCE substituting for the DB BR 189

the dB br 146.2 ,143,112, and the doppelstock control car adding additional Regional express and Regional Bahn services

the dB br 155 and MRCE 182 substituting for the DB BR 189

I’m not including s bahn lines as I don’t know if s bahn trains run on this line

Why not extend the route into Strasbourg via Appenweier because that's what the faster TGV 2N2 and DB BR407 takes to Paris France via Strasbourg Kehl Bridge the 2010 construction. This way your route can be joined with my suggestion the Appenweier-Strasbourg Railway as the Rhein-Neckar Alsace High-Speed Route. That way Mannheim Rangierbanhof gets SNCF BB370000 freight locomotive for France Germany freight traffic. if you stand at Karlsruhe there's going to be SNCF TGV 2N2 to Frankfurt and Paris Gare L'Est along with SNCF TER Grand Est local traffic Strasbourg Kehl Appenweier Karlsruhe passenger services.

The BR 426 doesn't run on this line, only the BR 425.
The ICE 1 and ICE 4 are much more common on this line than the ICE 3.
The BR 140 is no longer operated by DB since 2016.
Other trains on this line include:
    S-Bahn Rhein-Neckar (S3 & S9) & bwegt Karlsruher Netze (Netz 7b):
    BR 463 (Siemens Mireo)

    Stadtbahn Karlsruhe (S71 & S81):
    GT8-100C/2S (BR 450)
    GT8-100D/2S-M (BR 450)
    ET 2010 (BR 450)

This line is already 83km (~50mil) long, the extension to Strasbourg would add an extra 63km (~ 39mil) which would be a completely separate route. Also there are only TGV stopping at Karlsruhe Hbf, there are no regional services to France from there.

Thank you for telling me about SNCF Services on the Mannheim-Karlsruhe Rhine Valley railway. I'm thinking they can be added as AI services then when a French Route associated with them is added. Those SNCF Trains I mentioned can be played on this route.

Also to Mention. Mannheim has an important Harbour for freigt services in combination with the gigantig yard. So this route also could bring some great opportunities for shunting services.

I would love to see the Rheinbahn running from Mannheim via Schwetzingen and Graben-Neudorf to Karlsruhe. There is a similiar DLC in TS20XX so the route wouldn´t have to be built from scratch. The route is pretty interesting as it has a large volume of passenger and freight traffic. It includes regional services (before December 2020 BR 425 EMUs were used, afterwards Siemens Desiros run as S-Bahn), high-speed IC and ICE services as well as freight services.

Building on OPs post I would suggest the following route layout:

The purple colored parts are used by regional and freight trains running from Mannheim via Schwetzingen and Graben-Neudorf to Karlsruhe. The section from Schwetzingen via Friedrichsfeld is necessary to reach the Mannheim freight yard. The brown parts are the high-speed track, mainly used by ICE, IC and TGV services running north-south and vice versa between France, Switzerland and northern Germany. The high speed section partly runs from Mannheim through a tunnel and then joins the regular regional and freight route north of Graben-Neudorf. The high-speed section uses LZB, while the regional section uses PZB until the two sections merge.

Since there are so many different services the rolling stock can be diverse, as well. Different ICE types run there (ICE 1 to 4), BR 120s used to pull ICs, as well as BR 425 or Siemens Desiros. Personally I´d love to see a BR 401, aka ICE 1 included. Freight can be a mixed selection, like intermodals, tanker cars, box cars etc. Freight locos can be varied, as well and actually use the LZB sections as well. Maybe a BR 152 could be included as a new loco. Mannheim is home of a large hump yard, as well as various rail-served industries. Among them are several harbours at the river Rhine, as well as a large coal electricity plant that gets supplied by long coal trains. Karlsruhe has an important sorting yard as well, so yard and road switching operations could be possible. A larger road switcher, like a BR 294 would be a good addition.

All in all I like OPs suggestion and would hope to see this varied and fascinating route in TSW2. It´s also absolutely necessary to include more routes from the beautiful state of Baden-Württemberg. ;)

The S-Bahn services of VRN (S3 & S9) are still operated by the BR 425. The new rolling stock is slowly being implemented into these services. The new rolling stock is the BR 463, also known as Siemens Mireo.

Almost all IC and night ICE services don't use the direct line between Karlsruhe and Mannheim but divert via Bruchsal and Heidelberg. The direct line between Mannheim and Karlsruhe is also only used by the S9, the S3 also uses the line via Bruchsal.

Again the S-Bahn trains are Simens Mireo. There are services operated by the Desiro HC, which run on the RE line towards Basel, and Desiro Classic which run on the line to Landau (Pfalz) and Neustadt (a.d. Weinstraße).
