So with working in the area for 3 days the past week, I feel like this area of California would be a good idea for a freight/switching route for TS2020 (Or TSW if shorten).

I feel like the route could focus on 2 lines that run north of Stockton. The Western Pacific line, which runs straight north out of Stockton thru Sacramento, towards Oroville. The line would be about 112 miles long and was used as part of the Western Pacific, then later the Union Pacific as a connection of the Feather River Canyon, to Altamont Pass to the east side of the Bay Area. The line crosses path with the Southern Pacific lines in Sacramento, and Binney Junction in Marysville. The era for this route would be pre 1996.

The 2nd line, which would be my preference would be the Southern Pacific Line, running from Stockton to Roseville, then the East Valley line to Binney Junction, with the option of the WP line to Oroville. The route length from Stockton to Roseville would be 62 miles, and would total 121 miles with the connection to Oroville. This could be set in the SP era, or pushed up to the modern era with the Union Pacific. This line also serves Siemens Mobility's Sacramento Facility.

With the route being so short, some extended main and branch lines can be added to this route as well. To the West, the line can extend to Davis California which is about 16 west of the SP Wye in Sacramento, where the ex SP West Valley Line to Shasta connects. This could give us part of the California Zephyr route as well as Amtrak California's Capitol Corridor, as both trains stop at Davis, Sacramento, and Roseville.

The North Valley Line out of Davis could extend to Woodland, adding an additional 11 miles of track. This route is now owned by the UP, though the California Northern switches cars on this line via trackage rights.

Also connecting to Woodland is the Sierra Northern, on ex Sacramento Northern trackage, to the town of West Sacramento, where the Sierra Northern switches industry as well as exchanges cars with the Union Pacific in the West Sac yard. The Sierra Northern runs their Dinner trains on this route. One unique feature of the route is the trestle over the floodplain of Conaway.

Another bonus of Sacramento would the California Railroad Museum, located near the Sacramento Station, as well as the Ex Southern Pacific Shops north of the Museum and Station.

Love to see this with SP equipment, especially new models we don't already have.
