Last year the Rhein-Ruhr-Express RRX replaced almost all BR111 and BR146 with Dosto passenger cars in Northrhine-Westphalia. One of the routes is the RE4 starting in Aachen Hbf and passes trough the beautiful „Niederrhein“ area. From the little towns west of the river Rhine into the busy Neuss/ Dusseldorf area the RE4 is one of the most used trains from daily commuters. The Aachen - Dusseldorf track offers plenty of opportunities for Regional an S Bahn lines and is one of the main freight lines from Belgium into the Rhein Ruhr area. Also it could create a base for future expansion in this area. Connecting Dusseldorf and Cologne along the river Rhine or passing along side the Hughe mines in this area on the Monchengladbach - Rheydt - Grevenbroich - cologne line The Aachen - Cologne line shows what potential this area has, why shouldn’t it be expanded!
Why not go Aachen Monchengladbach-Duisburg so that SKA Links up with Haputstrecke Rhein-Ruhr. Your suggestion forms the Link SKA HRR via Dusseldorf with the missing section Dusseldorf Duisburg then north to the Netherlands as Duisburg Oberhausen-Arnhem Railway. Excellent idea so far with the potential bundle of Aachen Dusseldorf RE4 with SKA HRR and RRO if Wuppertal Dusseldorf section is built.
As this is the Route I live next to, I would absolutely love it. The cool thing is that you can subdevide the Route by implementing the RB33, splitting up in "Lindern" and going onto a single track line. Would be something new and maybe could add the need to decouple a train and continue. The thing is that I think that two EMUs (RRX Desiro HC and Coradia Continental) seems like a lot of work, even if I prefer the 1440 RB33. The BR 425 could even subsitute for the RB33 in a different Timetable with the BR 146 and DoStos (Even if the 146 should be a 111)
