How close have you (inadvertently) gotten to a red signal?

When the red signal disappeared from view, I expected the worst.

(I usually brake too soon pulling into a platform. This Essen Hbf platform turned out to be a bad spot for me to try waiting longer before starting to slow down!)

That was the HRR DB 101 Changeover scenario.

I think it depends on the geometry of the locomotive/cab. The distance counter is the 3D distance from your head/POV to the signal so if the driver seat is further back from the nose of the train the distance will read more when you SPAD but if you are driving in a flat nosed train like the tube stock or LIRR trains you can probably go closer without SPAD:ing.

Possible, but Br 422 in the picture (if I have identified it correctly) is far from flat

Doesn't it only count as spad when your magnet passes the beacon? Like irl?

I once tried pulling up to a red signal a bit closer than I would normally do in game. The 2000Hz was triggered when a tiny bit of the train was over the magnet but no SPAD message in-game. It just feels like the game thinks that the trains’ magnet is at the very front instead of where they are actually mounted no matter which train you’re driving (I was at the end of the route so there’s no way the game permitted me to pass at danger)

Not at my PC at the moment. Are the loco magnet shoes mounted in different locations for different locos? I assume that the shoe that interacts with the magnet is modeled on the locos. Does this actually correspond with the SPAD point?

Personally, I find it much less ambiguous to just blow through the SPAD.

I believe they are usually mounted at the boogie of the train or somewhere near it. I don’t think I see any loco that has the magnet mounted at the very front of the train.

HHL service i ran last night (RB service ending in Bad Odesloe i think), at the final stop had to get closer than 5m to the red signal to get the "open passenger doors" to trigger (literally stopped at 10m and 7m first and no luck).. Annoying. Got SPAD on Clinchfield (NB Manfiest) due to a similar issue, but that was more due to me being tired and not noticing the signal was so close, but was very frustrating at the end of 2 hours.
