Since DTG has apparently not made a manual for Cathcart, I decided I'd make my own user guide, similar to how I did the Class 20 one. I've attached it below. If there's any inaccuracies, or I've omitted something that should be in it, please tell me. The guide includes instructions on setting up the train, an introduction to the route, details on scenarios, signalling and safety systems. Feel free to share it around. Legal bit: This is not an official manual and is not endorsed by DTG. ScotRail loco © Transport Scotland.
I have said it before, and I will say it again.... this is truly fantastic - a really good piece of work.....! Thank you ever so much for this - it really means a great deal to me.
I'm glad you all like it I have updated the document to include details on the split distant signal at Pollockshields that I somehow forgot to add. The new document can be found in the original post of this thread. Don't know how I missed it as it was the whole reason why I put the signall
It's okay now. Thanks. I'll do a little EDIT here and give my opinion. Thank you so much, right now EDIT So good, Cameron's Gaming. BR o7
I haven't bought this route and almost certainly will not do so, but that manual you've created surpasses most of DTG's official guides. Have you considered publishing it in the guides category on TSW2's Steam pages, where it will be available to those who are not members of these forums? Many, many kudos!!!!!!!!!
I hadn't even considered it - I tend to avoid any steam community page like the plague generally. I shall have a look
No - the OP has done DTG's work.... and that is work that everyone that bought the DLC has paid DTG for. Manuals should be standard for every single DLC that DTG makes, and DTG should supply the manuals.
Thank you for this excellent guide. I have one suggestion for improvement. You mention the rheostatic brake: “Note that the Class 314 uses blended rheostatic braking, so the motors are ran in the opposite direction to slow the train down, with a little bit of normal braking.” If the motors would change direction, strange effects on the wheels would appear. In fact, when the rheostatic brake is applied, the electric circuit is modified and the engine is turned into a generator. The kinetic energy of the train is then used to generate electric energy, which is dissipated in resistors. As a result, the train is slowed down. The direction of the engines does not change.
This is a great manual. On the topic of the rheostatic brake on the 314, did they ever actually use the rheostatic brake in real life? Would there be a way to disable it in the game?
I don't know if the real one used it (though they had it fitted), and you can't isolate it. Also, the Steam version is up: Steam Community :: Guide :: Cathcart Circle Line - A Driver's Guide
I travelled on them for years and never heard the motors on braking. Annoying that it can't be isolated for authenticity but hopefully someone will mod it.
A great manual! I have 3 nits: P. 4: on shutdown, you can't turn the Master Key off until the Reverser is set to Off. (I believe for authenticity's sake you should also open the MSB and lower the panto) P. 8: The railtour services are also available to those who own the Tees Valley Line DLC (Class 37, and Classes 20 and 31 if owned) P. 17: OSS is at least partially implemented in TSW2, as anyone who has run afoul of the bad loop at Reading Platform 9 can attest.
