    Class 397 'Civity'

The announcement of new trains was made by FirstGroup when it was confirmed that they would become the next operator of the TransPennine Express franchise from 1 April 2016. In May 2016, TransPennine Express announced that they had ordered twelve five-car electric multiple units from CAF to replace the fleet of ten four-car Class 350/4 'Desiro' units that previously operated TransPennine Express services between Liverpool, Manchester, and Scotland. This train is not equipped with tilting.

Testing of the first set began at the Velim railway test circuit in July 2018.

An option for up to 22 extra units was available to TransPennine Express, but it was not exercised.

    British Rail Mk5A & Mk5A DVT

It was first announced by TransPennine Express in 2016 that they were to procure 126 new vehicles from CAF, which included 66 Mark 5A locomotive-hauled coaches. They would be formed into 13 five-carriage sets, hauled by Class 68 locomotives. This equates to 65 coaches for total service, with the 66th coach being a spare Driving Trailer.

The sets are currently used on services between Liverpool and Scarborough and they will eventually work services between Manchester Airport and Redcar Central. Each set is composed of 1 first-class carriage with guards area and catering provision, 1 standard class carriage with PRM toilet, 2 standard class carriages, and a standard class Driving Trailer (DT). In October 2016, production started on these coaches, and in March 2017, CAF and TPE released a photo of the first completed bodyshell.

The first completed rake was sent for testing at Velim railway test circuit in March 2018, the second set being delivered straight to the UK in May 2018 via Portbury ahead of their planned entry into service in the autumn of that year. TransPennine Express has branded their new trains under the general name Nova, with the Class 68 + Mark 5A combination given the name Nova 3.

In April 2019, the first Nova 3 set was officially handed over from CAF to TPE, after a mandatory period of fault-free running.

The first set entered service on 24 August 2019 between Liverpool Lime Street and Scarborough.

The Nova 3 was officially launched on 25 November 2019 at Liverpool Lime Street station alongside other members of the new Nova fleet.

    British Rail Class 802/2

The Class 802s are broadly identical to the Class 800 bi-mode trains used in the Intercity Express Programme, and are used in a similar way; they run as electric trains where possible and are equipped with the same diesel generator engines as the Class 800. However, they utilize higher engine operating power – 700 kW (940 hp) per engine as opposed to 560 kW (750 hp) – and are fitted with larger fuel tanks to cope with the gradients and extended running in diesel mode expected on the long unelectrified stretches on which they will operate.

TransPennine Express will operate 19 five-car Class 802 sets, primarily on the North Transpennine Line between Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, and Edinburgh. These trains were initially given the Class 803 designation, before being redesignated as 802/2s prior to delivery of the first unit. Production began in December 2017, and testing began on the East Coast Main Line during July 2018, with the fleet due to enter service from summer 2019. TransPennine Express formally accepted the first of their Class 802 trains in July 2019. TransPennine Express have branded their new overall fleet as Nova, with each of its new types designated as either '1', '2' or '3' - the Class 802s are to be termed as Nova 1.

I was gonna include the class 68 in this proposal as they're usually used with the Mk5A's, but I wasn't gonna bother since we've already got them in TS!

MK5s are in progress, there is also a pack on ATS which uses 180 coaches as this is the closest at the moment.

On the the now defunct simvue website there was an 801 reskined into a 802, but as I said it is no longer available.
