Definitely, it's a shame this is lost in this completely unrelated thread :)

Yeah, that's not a bad shout... I'll release the v3.0 update first though. The tamper was built for 4k ideally, so it kinda fits the topic but yes, it'll get it's own thread once v3.0 is out in the wild :)

Dunc's been using one single thread for literally everything he posts about for ages now. It's efficient :)

It's the most viewed thread on the DTG TS forums if you don't count the West Coast Mainline South Improvements thread... and it's not pinned by a mod. If it's Dunc related, it's in here :)

I'm still waiting for you to finish off all the headlight fixes, and what happened to that Frankenstein cab merge thingy? Slacker!

Slightly back on topic RE: graphics/performance.

    I'm currently playing TS @ 1080p

    Specs are as follows:

i5 9600K (overclocked to 4.4Gh using Game Boost)
    16GB 3200mhz RAM
    8GB RTX 2070 super.

I don't have RW enhancer but do have the AP Track and Weather packs.

What are the best settings for me to get a constant frame rate? I've noticed i can get up to around at least 80fps on the least demanding routes with most things maxed (except for AA, which I think I'm running at 2 x 2 SSAA). Sometimes I get down to around 25 - 30 fps on more demanding content, but sometimes it stutters depending on route. Game is installed to an SSD.

Should I use the DSR function to increase my monitor resolution to 2k (basically it'll increase reslooution but downscale to my monitors size as my monitor is only a 1080p). My monitors refresh rate is 144Hz.

    Thanks.

    Jamie

    Who you planning on shooting?

Any FPS higher than 30 is completely wasted on TS, constant framerate is what you seek and you can get that by capping your FPS to 30 I have an i7 9700 a 11gb 1080ti which is technically better than your 2070 (minus RTX technology of course) but it has more computing power than yours I also have double your RAM, nonetheless I still cap my game to 30FPS and it's buttery smooth because of it.

High FPS is great (and very important) in competitive first person shooters, but it's a waste of resources on a nearly 13yr old simulator game.

Option 1) If you launch via the Steam interface (an option I never recommend)
    • Launch Steam
    • Either left click on Train Simulator in the left hand side games list and then right click on "Manage" or right click on the cog that's hover labelled "Manage" over on the top right (ensuring that Train Simulator is the focused game on your Steam library by right clicking on the game from the left hand side games list first)
    • Right click on "Properties" from the drop down menu that appears
    • At the bottom of the "General" window that has now opened you will see "Launch Options"
    • type in the following into that field exactly as shown here > -FPSLimit=30
    • Close the properties window ( [x] in the top right) and launch game as normal
Option 2) If you use a desktop shortcut created from the RailWorks64.exe located in your RailWorks folder (my preferred way of launching TS)
    • Right click on the desktop shortcut
    • Left click "Properties" at the bottom of the list
    • In the properties window there will be a field Next to "Target:" which should have the file location of the .exe it's related too, click on the target field text and scroll to the far right of the text right to the end after RailWorks64.exe"
    • leave a space (hit spacebar once) and then enter -FPSLimit=30
    • click apply, close properties window and launch game by double clicking shortcut icon

DSR will give you even more of a performance hit btw, I used to use it myself for a while (same as you 1080p @144hz monitor) but at 2k DSR I was taking roughly a 10fps hit.
The only really constantly noticeable improvement was telegraph/power lines, if you can live with flickery jagged lines then don't worry to much about DSR

I use DSR X4, I cannot play TS without it now.
Also I cap my FPS within the nvidia control panal, works great

Yeah I forgot you can do it via that but doing it directly within the launch parameters just seems "one less cog in the works" if you know what I mean

This statement means little without knowing your specs, and could even be a little misleading and potentially harmful to a weak specced system should someone try it solely off the back of your comment. Not having a go but you should at least provide more information, what are your specs, what cooling, what PSU, what are your temps now compared to before, what difference is the FPS (seeing as that's what the OP was concerned about initially). It just gives the OP more to go on as to whether it would be viable for him to do it too.

    - dash light z buffer issue resolved
    - tarpaulin detailing added to trailer
    - pipework added to trailer
    - additional shadow baking applied to underside vehicle components
    - HD signage applied to front body of loco
    - chrome window inserts added
    - bogies join to main body

Capping it doesn't really do much for preventing lower frame rate stutters though. It stops it from going over 30 (or whatever you set), but it's the dips below this that you'll notice, and capping the top end doesn't do anything to prevent that. Capping to 30 will prevent some cases of screen tearing tough, which can happen at lower multiples of your screen's refresh rate.

Not had a chance to download the update yet but I just watched your video Dunkrez, seems to be an issue with your texture, possibly the alpha channel?
    Image2.jpg

    on the other side too..
    Image4.jpg

Apologies if this is fixed since release but like I said I've only watched the update video.

That's intentionally there believe it or not, figured the imperfection made it look a little more real. I'm happy to provide a solid colour throughout though - there are more bits to follow in the next update pack too.

Somebody wanted working cab doors and windows, and the blinds would be pretty cool too.

There are a lot of things I'd like to include over time, and most probably will include.

    dunkrez A request mate..

Many of us like to keep previous versions of an install just in case there's a problem with the later one, could you therefore add a version number to the .exe's from now on please?
    Example DR73106_1.0.exe DR73106_1.1.exe and so on.. :)

    Edit:
Just watched Tom of OTS/Train Sim TV review, he picks up on some good points of things he's noted, worth a watch Duncan.

Hi Dunc, any chance you can eliminate all the tgt. cost. and xml files from the installer, they add unnecessary bulk to it.

    Next update is underway :)

ATS removed the first pirate link for the tamper today. A year of work and a small element think it's fair game to steal that work - thank God for the good guys amongst us! To put this in context, for all the time and investment and even ongoing work for updates, the tamper will likely just about break even and enable me to continue building loco's... so to see somebody offer it for free illegally is pretty heart-breaking. Train Simulation is such a niche that pirating something like this is literally taking food away from a family's table. Hope karma catches up with the criminal.

    Anyhow, onwards and upwards.

Dunc, you have got to get better at promoting your products unless you want to be poor.

Writing about them in a thread with the title of "Train Simulator Max Performance . . ." is stupid as no one who doesn't already know about the tamper will think of reading this.

Do yourself a favour and start a new thread with a relevant title.

How about "High Quality Drivable Tamper Loco Development"?

Except the views aren't just about his project are they? A good proportion of these views will be by people interested in the topic described in the thread title. They may even by the majority of views, or maybe it's robot crawlers who are attracted by the thread title. We and he just don't know.

But if he writes about his creations in specific threads with related titles he knows exactly how much interest he's got.

Views are vanity; sales are reality.

That looks awesome mate! If we can get enough interest I'll build it.

I haven't disappeared - juggling work and dad duties during the six week holiday has been a 'mare but I've been consistently building.

Next tamper update should drop soon, really helps now the kids are back at school - I am free! :D

I should diligently point out that this 47 may never see the light of day... even if completed by me (and it's close).

The reason being, the community only want an AP and MKS 47.

I should add; I was thinking of releasing this at £9.99 and ready for modders.

Sorry guys, but if there is no demand, there's no point.

I asked just about the sound just pure curiosity nothing else knowing AP as sounds i would though you guys got some kind of agreement, no de respecting your work at all, the TS community needs a brand new Class 47 the existing one its over 10 year's so yes, for the price of 9.99 over at ATS isn't a bad price tag either, may be worth see if you get in contact with DTG about your future releases they mighr be interested in them and your Tamper Dlc also, keep up the good work you already showed you have great 3D modelling skills.

No worries mate, would you consider modelling high quality british wagons for TS which is something we really lack off and who knows you would have more market to it just a thought through.
