Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere but just a bit of fun. Thoughts on what it might be, what's included, locos, routes etc?
The Spirit of Steam add-on might be similar to Rush Hour; a dlc containing 3 old fashioned routes for TSW2, one from each of the usual countries (America, UK, Germany). Of course everything will be new, all rail cars, locomotives, and signalling systems will be new to Train Sim World (no AFB or PZB for Germans, no AWS for the Brits, and no alerter or ATC for us Americans, so it will be a challenge if you like driving modern stuff). I don't really know what routes would be included, but I imagine DTG will take some existing or recently released steam routes from TS and put 'em in TSW, kinda like what is happening with Rush Hour (I don't play TS so idk much about what steam routes the game has). Will I buy this dlc? Maybe, it will be fun to try something new, but I will have to see it for myself before making a decision. It all depends on how interesting it is, whether the content/gameplay justifies the selling price, and the state of the dlc on release day (any game-breaking, immersion killing bugs?).
People really need to stop speculating. Steam is already out, Choo Choo on Cathcart More seriously though; Isn't the classic semaphore signalling (UK) on West Somerset?
And on parts of NTP. Not necessarily the GWR introduced an ATC (later known as AWS) in the early 1900's. If a GWR or BR (WR) mainline route is built it might have it.
PZB has been around since the 1930s (under a different name then - Indusi, Induktive Zugsicherung - inductive train safety system as a rough translation). Of course, not all tracks were upgraded to use it then (especially not with certain historical events in the 1940s), but if a German steam route is set in the 1950s onwards, there's a good chance PZB (or correctly Indusi) will be present. On a totally unrelated note, I think it would be fantastic if we get a rush hour-like package with three routes, but I have trouble seeing it happening with Germany still not having any vintage content in TSW. Would be a good place to start though.
I’m thinking it will start like they did with console release on Xbox with GWE Founders Edition, just have one route with passenger and freight to test the uptake and new gameplay style
Well, the old GW system was a mechanical system, operated by a lever in the track, whereas AWS is magnetic. So similar in function but not in operation.
By the way there are German steam locomotives with PZB because PZB was used in Germany since the 1930s under the Name Indusi. The German Wikipedia link should say 500Hz 1000hz & 2000hz for Indusi PZB when used with steam locomotives. This was replaced by a 1950s PZB system in West Germany Deutsche Bundesbahn
The American route, I would imagine, would either be the N&W main line or a UP line called Sherman Hill.
It's not to do with the route. Think about the era closely. (Think about a certain dictator, and you'll get my point) I ain't saying it, I prefer not having any warnings
You mean Adolf Hitler. Instead of Hitler-era Germany for steam route why not a Russian steam route during the Stalin years like the Moscow Suburban railway or the Baranovksy Khasan Railway. The former can get a 4-14-4 steam locomotive the AA20 or an FD Class Steam locomotive 2-10-2 complete with a troop train. Track gauge is 1.520-1.524m for the former Soviet Union and Finland. Even the mallard LNER A4 was used as a troop train.
Nothing to do with the depiction of a wartime railway - that would actually be quite cool - I just don't think it's the best idea to be depicting a country with a swastika every 100m or a country with visible suffering (Soviet Russia). And as for 1945-50 Europe was kinda wrecked. Not very pleasant to see.
How about the Pacific Side of Russia considered for the steam route except for 1950-1953 Korean War where those FD 2-10-2 and 4-14-4 AA20 carried supplies from Russia to North Korea via Khasan-Tumangang border crossing.
Ohh look I saw a steam train over there, I think its carrying some fish or something nice. Let's keep away from all that evil historical stuff.
Now this is on the road map. Would love to see more Heritage Routes like West Somerset produced, How about Keithley Worth Valley Railway especially as the new Railway Children film is being released on April 1st 2022? Also Severn Valley Railway and the Kent and East Sussex would be lovely too.
Great news Steam has progressed. But if the Audio hasn't been upgraded by the time it releases. It will be a real shame as it will spoil the experience.
The following might be Germany Bochum Dahlhousen gives steam locomotives to run or HRR via Essen Steele or TS22 Wutachtalbahn US Essex Valley CT and the British Steam routes. Because DTG has a tendency to bundle new themes with US UK & Germany routes. For Rush Hour you have UK Brighton Main Line Germany Riesa-Dresden & US NEC Boston.
Either that or "Spirit of Steam" is a steam gala day at WSR - to get us underway with a couple of options, it'll be a loco pack with a couple of these... https://www.west-somerset-railway.co.uk/railway/steam If DTG already have a good relationship with the railway, they'd probably have good access to get a detailed view of their engines.
This would be a good option but it's been hinted at that the new steam engine might come with a new route, would wsr really need to total redone for this if it was being used?
That means a Manor Class then a Peckett 0-4-0 1788. At the same time they need to be working on its German Steam route like the Wutachtalbahn DB BR 086 which would be your German equivalent to Peckett 0-4-0 1788 WSR followed by the US Essex Valley Porter Steam locomotive 2. These use Code A Steam locomotive high/low pressure.
The porter 0-4-0s (plural) are mostly used in industries, logging, and ports making it a no go. However there was a 2-8-0 sent to LITERALLY every country of every gage track during and just after WW2. It would be the equivalent of the 40-2 freight diesel in the American freight routes.
The USATC S160, would be an interesting loco if it would be included. Over 2000 made between ALCO, Baldwin, and Lima. The Victory Works version on TS is decent enough for its age.
...I agree: "Spirit of Steam" sounds like a good marketing idea. Maybe the next season ticket is so called. 3 steam routes for the 3 well known countries. After last year's highspeed introduction and this year's rush hour package, it looks like the next logical step, which is highly sought after. Some all time favourites, like the flying Scotsman LNER A3, Big Boy UP Class 4000 and the German BR52, already exist for Train Simulator. If the simugraph programming works, they could also be spotted on TSW routes in the future, but I don't want to build up any pressure on team.
I think locomotives like these might get added in the future once the dev team gets their feet wet on steam traction due to the complexity of the locos, so they might start small and build up from there. Haha i see what u did there
Looks like a GWR Star Class. Bit of a random locomotive to produce though, as they aren't the most numerous and some were converted into the Castle Class, so I wouldn't look to deeply into it. Skyhook did make the one in TS however. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GWR_4000_Class
Loco designed by Churchward, which is the way spirits go to meet up = this loco would meet on spirit of steam, we’ve solved the riddle, we are brilliant!
I know this is off topic, BUT Mallard TECHNICALLY is not the fastest steam engine. A P.R.R. E-6 Atlantic unofficially ran at 127.1 mph while trying to make lost time with the first version of the Broadway Limited on June 11th, 1905.
Mallard is the fasted steam locomotive in the world. I've heard this story of the American locomotive before and it always has different speeds quoted, it doesn't even appear on Wikipedia as an un-official record as there is no evidence of it ever actually happening.
That's Train Sim World not Train Sim World 2. It's been there since before I joined the forums last November so not a hint in my opinion
I have checked public archives and EVERY BOOK I HAVE that talks about the train and/or engine, as seen in these paragraph below. I also said TECHNICALLY.
I hope they add UK steam locomotives like: 4472 /60103 Flying Scotsman, 60163 Tornado, 4771 / 60800 Green Arrow, 9017 Earl of Berkeley, 3440 City of Truro
Germany they are going to be divided two West Germany Deutsche Bundesbahn 086 095 010 023 082 East germany Deutsche Reichsbahn DDR 18 201 23.10 65.10 all can run Thrandter Rampe route from Chemnitz Hilbersdorf Bw
I really hope it's not 3 routes. When they do that kind of stuff the quality of them is incredibly subpar.
