I must say I am quite pleased with the BR 44 steam locomotive after the couple hours I've had driving her, it's a nice change of scenery from the unfathomable number of British Steamies that I've picked up from this recent steam sale and over the last couple years. However, I am not completely sold on one particular scenario that comes with her for the Berlin-Leipzig route.

It's a 20-minute scenario, and the difficulty rating is 5 bars. I knew it was going to be a tough one, but I've triumphed over some scenarios of the same difficulty and had less hair-tearing-out fist-slamming frustration than I've ever experienced with this one. In it, you have to reverse, couple the locomotive to some grain cars, fill the last grain car and you're off to the races. Other than that, you need to reach a certain destination, go just past the switch, where it will automatically switch the tracks for you so you can reverse into your final destination, uncouple the cars you brought, and then come back out again to switch tracks for one final time (reversing again and coupling with some empty cars on a separate track).

There's a series of red danger signals that you need to ask permission for to pass, and the first one is right at the entrance to the yard you start in, but it's one of those really small ones that are just above ground level. I have missed that one twice now, and didn't realize I was supposed to ask permission to pass it, resulting in failure. I also missed another signal as I was coming out after I uncoupled my grain cars, right at the end. But the most frustrating part of this entire scenario was when I successfully reversed back in to couple the empty cars, and I accidentally bumped them, causing them to roll backwards independently towards the barrier at the end of the rails behind them. I couldn't catch up to them in time, and they touched the barrier and "derailed." I would've completed this damn thing if it wasn't for that.

TL;DR I despise this scenario with all my being. I have failed it 5 times now because of little mistakes, and I've never experienced anything like this. 20210706121046_1.jpg

If you run the scenario with the F3 HUD you can see what signals are coming up - and I know you don't like stopping at the Red ones but that is what happens in Real Life
I presume you did not bother applying the Hand Brakes when you detached them - F3 HUD > Coupling view
And to then chase after the wagons rolling away is plain stupid

I'm afraid you misunderstood me. I didn't say I don't like stopping at red signals, I said that I missed them, didn't see they were there until it was too late and I passed them.

Yes, to chase after them was pointless, but I was trying to save the attempt on the scenario. Elaborate further on everything including the "F3 HUD", I don't quite follow you.

When you have the HUD switched on with F3 or F4 you have a little graphic of the train at the bottom of the page with the signals you are approaching

If you click on the Coupling Icon you get a graphic of the wagons and you can click on individual wagons to apply the handbrake

I see. So that HUD is the one I've been using all along then. Like so:

Well, you'll also be happy to know that I've been using that coupling icon thing as well, but I did not know the handbrake thing existed for individual cars in that menu. Learning experiences all around. Now I just need to remember not to apply the brake as I'm coming in to couple cars, or else I'll come to a halt and bump them back instead.

You can only apply Handbrakes on wagons that are coupled to the loco - but I think you said you were recoupling to the wagons so you would apply the hand brakes before uncoupling

The other thing of interest in the picture is the engine and the representations of Signals you might have to stop at :)

I completed it at last. It told me I "reached my final destination", and then when I went back to select the next scenario, I didn't receive a mark for completing it. This game and its nonsense is starting to get to me....

If the only reason you are playing the game is to get a Tick maybe you should try something else
Some of use play the game for the pleasure of the driving part
