As a lover of steam locomotives from anywhere in the world, really, I am a little disappointed that there aren't very many steam locomotives from the US and Canada available in the game. This is, of course, excluding what one might find on a separate website like Railworks or through the Steam workshop. However, it is still surprising to me. It was likely already told to me where I might find them, but I've forgotten already. Where can I go to grab more locomotives? Are they free? Do I have to pay for them? Any insight is most appreciated. **Pictures below.** I'm looking at expanding my NA collection if it is even possible, with various locomotives such as (to name a few): The 4-6-2 G-2 "Pacific" The 4-8-4 "Class J" The 2-6-6-2 "Mallet" Along with others like the 2-8-4 "Berkshires" (already in the game, I know), 4-4-0 "American Types", 2-8-2 "Mikados", 4-8-4 "Northerns", "Camelbacks", "Shays", "Geared Designs", and so on.
Britkits is the only place I can think of that has a bunch of them, but all are Payware, I never bought one so I cant comment on them http://www.dickyjim.com/steam.html There is a Freeware Great Northern 4-8-4, which was made for the backdated version of Stevens Pass on Railworks America http://railworksamerica.com/index.p...rthern-steam-locomotive&catid=33:gn-cascadian http://railworksamerica.com/index.p...-for-cascadian-northern&catid=33:gn-cascadian The N&W Class J was available somewhere, I think TLS, but their site is down right now. There is also a Microsoft Train Simulator Conversion pack that has a few Steamers as well. http://www.mediafire.com/file/7jjq332ccauk6fd/MSTS_Conversions.rwp/file
Having seen plenty of screenshots and even videos on the Britkits content, to which I say it's outdated texturing and model wise, sounds are mediocre as well, but what gives him an edge is that he dominates the virtually untapped market of USRA designs.
Oh yes, Britkits. I do remember checking that site out a couple years ago. A decent selection for sure, though I got my hopes up and expected a few pages of them.
Right? It's a shame, honestly. Granted, the prices are fairly agreeable compared to what we'd see if they were released as actual DLC.
Here's a screenshot from the RWA library of one of the shays. The mainline locomotives look somewhat alright, but nonetheless in need of new representation on this sim.
DSGDDR has some great freeware models available if you're interested: https://www.dsgddr.com.br/ The physics on the engines aren't the greatest, but they all look fantastic and contain lots of detail.
The N&W J class requires the payware UP FEF3 among other things I believe.. which reminds me, I'm sure I now have all the extras to try and get 611 to show up in my TS...
Have a look at this Brazilian site - the models are very good - you need to check the gauge as some are Metre Gauge Prices are cheap too https://www.machine-rail.com/ Peter
Decent models, yeah, and cheap indeed. I might have to get those later, I'm still reeling from the steam sales.
Could you explain more about this please? How can I get my hands on the Class J? I picked up the FEF-3 during the Steam Summer Sales, but what else would I need to do?
Go here - https://thelocoshop.wixsite.com/thelocoshop/tls-rolling-stock-2 The readme file states you also require: REQUIREMENTS Requires ALL of the following to work properly FREE passenger pack here ---> http://golden-age-rails.com/packsrw/vnh_nyc.html UP FEF pack on steam ---> https://store.steampowered.com/app/277740/Train_Simulator_Union_Pacific_FEF3_Loco_AddOn/ Berkshire and free passenger set here ---> http://www.gtraxsims.com/ FREE water tenders here ---> https://digitalrailroadingco.powweb.com/dr/home/rolling-stock/freight-cars/tank-cars/ If you dont already have these installed this addon will not work. EDIT - so you require two payware locos the FEF 3 and the Berkshire.
The digital railroading website went down a few months ago. The auxiliary water tenders can now be found on the site I linked earlier in this thread.
Thanks for the update, Buynot. I've had the free assets for a while - just waiting for the Berkshire to turn up on sale..
The price isn't too high now. NKP S-2 Class 'Berkshire' Loco Add-On | Dovetail Store (dovetailgames.com)
According to this website it was £2.99 in the last Steam sale - how much lower should it get? https://isthereanydeal.com/game/trainsimulatornkpsiiclassberkshirelocoaddon/history/
...and I missed buying it in that one, Peter. However, at least I know it dropped to £2.99 once. It may do so again.. You're right, the price doesn't have to go any lower than that and I would have bought it at the time had I not missed out. (I probably forgot about it with other routes and stock to be playing with... I've only just placed it on my wishlist after reviewing the dependables for the J-class. ) EDIT - ...spelling
