As per the new announcement we can assume that tsw will be on the epic games store. Not that interesting I guess but we can wait and see
They said it wouldn't be of much interest to existing users. It looks like for existing users this'll effectively be a preview of the Rush Hour update? I do like that new route selection screen though, and hope this comes with the main RH update for everyone else, although I feel like the driver avatar is rather surplus to requirements, also i wish they'd shorten London Underground to LU in the menu, or take it out completely (given the Underground logo is there) The 'London Underground' bit isn't as important as the 'Bakerloo Line' bit is, particularly if we get another Tube route.
what i dont like is that over discord protagonist already said that the epic store ver will come first with the engine update and rush hour and later the steam version... it should be the other way around
To take the full context of what was said - rather than support two versions of the core game during the release on Epic, it made more sense to release the latest version, which is the new core. There won't be any split releasing in the future (except in a situation I'm currently unable to foresee). See this as an opportunity to try out some of the new core before the update launches everywhere else.
Nevermind. EDIT. Nevermind the nevermind, the above discord post has been updated to be consistent with Sam's post above.
So let me get this straight. A day after you announce we have to pay more money for an inferior (Riesa-Dresden) and delayed (London-Brighton) product in the rush hour routes you now announce that game updates like East Coastway PIS and MSB & Bakerloo improvements that we have all been waiting months for will be given to new users on a different platform first?! Goodness me.
If this was them announcing at they were making TSW3 and it would exclusive to Epic for a year that's one thing. But considering the short period of exclusivity, and the minor nature of the Rush Hour update I really don't care at all about that. It's a tad silly to hold back on the update for the Steam version when it's clearly ready, but also not like anything in it's truly major.
I suppose this was part of the agreement with Epic, it has to launch first on our platform? No real biggie for me..as long as the difference isn't days...
A year from now, most people won’t remember or care that new players got it earlier on epic. Let’s be happy for every new TSW customer, regardless of which store they shop at!
Yeah, but still I feel like it'd be perhaps a bit better if they sat on it until RH update launched on all platforms?
I can see the logic, what's the point in launching current version on EGS, just to update it later, think of it as a test bed, we can test it, report bugs and hopefully they fix the bugs so we get a better version on steam and console
You have me there, I hadn't considered it in that regard, although I feel like the update will get near to the point of no return by EGS launch in terms of dev cycle (IE will be too late to fix things before launch).
I agree, it’s a better experience for new customers not having access to the old HUD and controls, when the new version will have changed/improved the UI.
Introducing TSW to a larger audience can only be a good thing. However, I’m still seething over the Riesa-Dresden hackathon. I might be seething for sometime.
You need more than a week to do any meaningful bug fixes, what Epic has is gonna largely be what we have, only difference being lack of TSW1 content on their end. As for not releasing it elsewhere I do understand not being able to do anything about the update on console, there's a lot of stuff that has to be done to get stuff released on those platforms. But Steam doesn't have that issue, they likely could've got the update out on that alongside Epic, so at least both PC versions would be unified.
Agreed this announcement will definitely bring them a wider audience which will be a good thing, but also like you I am disappointed in the decision taken with the new Riesa-Dresden route.
Two huge concerns here. My only knowledge of thie Epic store is that they seem to like to sign up games to be released exclusively on their platform for a certain timeframe, Snowrunner and Satisfactory come immediately to mind. Can DTG give us a 100% assurance that Steam and Epic content will be released at the same time? Secondly, we've been told by DTG how difficult it is finding release slots for the 3 existing platforms (Steam, XBOX & Playstation). There have been a number of instances both with TSW and TS where releases have not gone to plan, delays, files missing, pricing errors etc. How the hell are they going to manage 4 platforms?
Don't think there is any "release slot" for Steam at least. Other games and programs sometimes gets updates several times a day. https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/updates And Valve/Steam doesn't charge developers to update their products.
Notice how the Epic Store won't have NEC available (yet), so they're going to wait until that's finished before releasing the update on all platforms, as they've said repeatedly previously.
