Aye up fellas, newbie on this Forum!

Recently started playing TS2018 and have finally got round to starting my first scenario! Mainly a fan of UK routes and diesels only, so bought nearly all of the BR stuff and WCML over Shap (being from Lancaster, it's one of my favourite routes in the U.K) The scenario in hand is a Career type, at the controls of a Class 20 in BR Green. (I literally just bought the Class 20 and wanted to put it to good use) This description should explain everything, just want to know if it sounds engaging enough to be posted on the workshop when I have completed it.

    ‘Chopper Rescue'

Summer 2018. You are working late one calm, summer, Thursday night shunting old test coaches at Carnforth MPD, when you receive a call. An overnight Glasgow Central to London Euston ‘sleeper train’ hauled by an Intercity Class 47 has broken down on the South-Bound Line, north of Oxenholme. It’s nearly midnight, many passengers are stranded and there’s no available help at Carlisle, you are the closest loco. Take your Class 20 north of Oxenholme, and couple onto the front of the consist. Another Class 47, a bitumen train from the Preston Docks branch line is currently idling at Preston train station and has agreed to take the overnight train and continue on to London. You must take the overnight service from Low Gill to Preston, drop the failed Class 47 locomotive in a siding and then couple up to the bitumen train that is heading to Heysham. Take the bitumen tankers back up north to Heysham Docks, and then finally make your way back to Carnforth MPD. You’ve got a long night ahead. Best fill your flask up.

Just wanted to know who'd be interested in this and the choice of Route/Locos?

    Cheers,

    Matt

    Sounds good!

I’m looking to make some scenarios myself, any tutorials you’re following...or are you winging it?!

    Nice
Nice! Hopefully we can exchange scenarios! Winged a lot of it but Matt Peddlesden's scenario tutorials are absolute gold. They definitely help with learning how to get used to doing everything. They just take a lot of time and it can be very frustrating when you get driver fails or pathing faults, a lot of it is trial and error. For instance, I haven't yet worked out how to allow changing from a down line to an up line and then reversing (which was my plan for coupling up to the 47) so I had to move the 47 onto the down line and change the break down circumstances. It can seem very daunting when you first load up but after reading or watching some tutorials it all just starts coming to you really! Looking forward to seeing some of your work!

Sounds like a long and convoluted scenario with plenty of interesting scope.
What would be the "running time"?

Yeah it is pretty complex, although saying that, the actual route is pretty simple (Carnforth>Low Gill>Preston>Heysham>Carnforth) it's essentially a big loop, and most of the difficult bits are shuffling round at Carnforth and Preston. I'm hoping to have it down to shy of 120 minutes, which with it being a more difficult and demanding scenario sounds about right to me
I went with Career type score system as to me they come across as more rewarding and involving. If it runs over 120 mins, I'll cut out the Heysham drop, and just have the Bitumen train run to Carnforth instead, as you said it does seem quite convoluted, however, I feel the Heysham leg of the journey distracts the fact of WCML Shap's relatively straight route so I'll see how it plays out when the first complete draft of the scenario is finished. I was hoping to create a scenario that the hardcore players could enjoy with a good long play time with plenty of instructions and mileage, but one that appeals to the casual guys, like myself who perhaps want to challenge themselves. Nothing particularly demanding but at that length of time, certainly not one you want mess up near the end.

Oh, if you wanted to be a pain you could make it rain on the last haulage leg which would add wheelslip etc if the player had that turned on... puts more complexity in there

Thanks, did use one of Simon's ones out of there actually, also extremely helpful! Will have a look over the others when I get back from work!

Let me know when you've got some ideas pinned for your first scenario!

You evil genius! That's an amazing idea, didn't know you could change the weather at certain intervals within the scenario?!

I've seen DTG scenarios where the weather changes within a scenario so it should be possible.

Definitely going to try that! Bit of rain when leaving Preston should spice things up even more!
