Why does it have to be because they are lazy?! I know you like to be constantly negative but surely this doesn't even make sense to you?
but they recycled old Locos and Trains to Great Weastern. So why not a Timetable with the 800 and 387
Because GWE is set in 2016. They’re not going to making another pack for GWE. Also, the electrification only goes as far as Hayes and Harlington.
Because unlike DLGW, the 800/387 would need OHLE for a realistic timetable. The 387 especially, as it would need it to Reading, the 800 less so.
What are the odds of any Class 158s being built for the route? Would be a fantastic addition, well depending on exactly the time of the route that it's set. Apologies, with this being such a long thread I can't remember if this has been discussed (if at all?), previously.
I am waiting to see the PIS on this route, given it looks like it will be in the 90s, as getting the license for a FGW livery 150/2 and/or HST will not happen, while a Regional Railways and BR Blue one should be possible
If it was in the early/mid 90's it probably didn't have PIS. Penzance may have had those VDU screens (which would be pretty cool to see modelled). I imagine some of the smaller stations didn't have any kind of PIS at all you probably had to rely on looking at the timetable and a watch!
You joke, but when the HST came in, it was the demise of the use of trains getting the fish to London. Previously the refrigerated van could be attached to an upbound train from Penzance, I think some still went in the guards area of the 43 packed down, but not as much!
I’ve recently watched a film from (I think) the 50s where they needed to get brocolli to London. The management tried to get trains diverted from places like Cardiff so that the brocolli can be transported. I can’t see that happening today even if the brocolli was normally transported by rail.
I think I've seen that years ago, if I have then it's really interesting. It's made by British Pathé if I remember correctly
For anyone interested ….150/2 data / cab vids https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/for-rivet-games-150-2.42590/
I see from the latest road map the route is now Penzance to St. Austell. Have I missed this announcement?
they sort of announced it today DTG said in the article “Finally this week we've flagged up the West Cornwall Local route as "new" even though it's been on the roadmap for a while now as we're finally able to announce that the route is being extended to St Austell.”
This kinda raises more questions for me: If I'm not very mistaken, that's the GWR Green MK3 Coaches. Rivet did say they were planning on Re-using a loco, so this makes sense. So would this mean another IOW where the Route is one era, the stock another, or is the Roadmap not quite saying the right information? Or is it simply the best image of anywhere on the line with a train flying by. Let the games begin ↓
It wouldn't be the first time the route code's been wrong for the route, so I wouldn't fully trust it to know what era the route is set. To me, it'd make more sense for it to be in the GWR era as it probably makes route building easier if set closer to the present and I'm guessing licensing may also be easier for GWR than FGW.
I suspect that it is the latter. They probably needed to get their own picture because of copyright and of course, the GWR livery is what is currently running on the line. It’s probably a Castle Class revamped Class 43.
I mean I wouldn't rule out it being GWR - we know there is one reused loco coming, so it'd be easier to use the GWR HST. Who knows, maybe they'll be nice and give us the FGW version from the files as well, get a little mix in. Would be good for variety.
I don't think it's possible, if RL accuracy is wanted. GWR doesn't operate 150s on that line (except the very short St Ives - St Erth run); it's 158s and shortened HSTs (255s). I am guessing BR with an early 90s date. That would imply a BR Blue 43 with Valentas as well, but one thing Rivet does very well is model locos.
Can anyone familiar with the route tell me how much further distance has been given following the news of an extension to St Austell (plus an overall length of the whole route)? Thanks.
It would be accurate if the route was set around the same time as GWE, before the Turbo cascade ultimately led to 158s being transferred to Cornwall.
Extending the route to St Austell now brings freight back into consideration. Burngullow Junction, 2 miles west of St Austell, is the junction for the branch line to Parkandillack clay works - all that remains of the St Austell-Newquay line. Although their frequency is far less than it used to be, clay trains still run to Fowey (via Lostwithiel) and Exeter Riverside yard for onward movement. Setting the route in the planned time period would add a lot more freight albeit for only two miles, unless of course Rivet were to model the branch and the works at Parkandillack. Now that really would be something!
I wouldn't think they'd see the value in making new wagons for 2 miles of route. Perhaps there's potential for layering or AI traffic though?
Same, but the rolling stock is likely be the same as it is now so if you can use the livery designer you should be able to reskin the trains into modern liveries if you want.
I'm happy with it being BR, the 90s is a decade we've yet to have; hopefully the stations are in BR branding also though. I'm guessing the 150 will be in Regional Railways livery then, and the HST in swallow if it's included.
Excellent news on it being set in the 90s, that's been a notable gap in the UK timeline. Plus it's the first truly historic route for a long while. Big thumbs up from me!
I can't help but feel a little disappointed at the time period, was REALLY hoping for it to be around 2005-2010 (the era I grew up in), but I'd take the early 90s over any other decade before it. Plus the 150/2 in Regional Railways livery is fantastic, even from the eyes of someone who's grown up with the zany and colourful liveries of privatisation. If a HST in Swallow livery is included then that's also really cool (it also means that they'll HAVE to remake the HST with Valenta sounds and a redone cab). I'm hoping the new version of the livery designer will simply let you apply custom liveries to EVERY AI train, as opposed to this random chance rubbish they currently have. When I get my hands on the route I'll immediately do my best approximation of an FGW livery and pretend it's set in my ideal time period. I don't think the route would have changed much between the early 90s and the late 2000s. I do agree that it's a time period we've been missing however, and I wouldn't be opposed to having more routes in this setting, but I'll always take more modern routes over it.
It shouldn't be all that hard: when one starts a service, if one opens the "change livery" screen there could be a list of all available with yes/no checkboxes, maybe even a slider for percentage (e.g., GCC should be 2/3 blood-and-custard, 1/3 Scotrail blue)
Agreed! I wonder if anyone will attempt dynamic lines livery? The closest I can get to it is fcc, but even that was a challenge!
What is really interesting is Rivet have confirmed St Austell as the final destination. I am surprised that they say it will increase game play? Granted its another 15-20 minutes up the line from Truro. BUT its still part of the A-B route sytem. I would have thought adding Falmouth branchline would have kept it "West Cornwall". "Snozzle" is definitely mid Cornwall! D
Luckily they don't just make content with your interests in mind! Believe it or not there are many of us out there who have interests other than in modern routes.
