Can you imagine the pedants on here complaining that they dont work in the right way at the various stations? too quick, too slow, or if you dont get thrown off the top at the right force? Walking up or down them works just fine!
I understand what you are saying and agree but would the implementation of escalators make the passenger AI easier instead of having to do the awkward walking up and down stairs? I'm no coder but might it even free up resources at certain stations?
