No problem. My personal favourite weather setting with it is Spring, with some cloud applied, as it now looks so good.

Agreed, tend to only play TSW in that setting anyway as that's when the game looks 'the best' imo!

Same here. All the other seasons seem to look off to me, even without the skybox mod.

Yeah the seasons definitely are off; Winter is the worst for me, snow just covers everything in whiteness, making it a overexposed mess. No contrast or shadows. Horrid lol!

Not to blow my own trumpet or anything but it really does transform the look and feel of the game.

    Hello all,
my TSW2 unfortunately crashes every time I paste the file into my DLC folder. Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be?

Have you tried to copy only this .pak without the presence of other mods?

Some other mod could be causing the crash. Obviously based on my personal experience.

This is my only mod. I bought the game this weekend and it runs very well without the mod. However, I have changed something in the ini file,

    r.ViewDistanceScale=1

Maybe it is related to that.

It shouldn’t crash the game. Perhaps it’s worth verifying the game files with Steam, to check if anything is missing.

Shouldn’t there be more pak files in that folder even if you haven’t added any other mods?

that’s what I thought (I’m at work so couldn’t check mine to be sure). I’d say there’s an issue with the installation of TSW2 then.

Yes, the DLC folder contains every route and every loco you own as an seperate .pak-file - the core files are in steamapps\common\Train Sim World 2\WindowsNoEditor\TS2Prototype\Content\Paks

So, I did a Steam check now, no missing files were found. After that I added "Tsw 2 New Dynamic Cloud Visuals" again and now it works, for whatever reason......

    Thanks for your help.

I think this will be the same for all current TSW 2 mods. A simple repack of the mod in a 4.26 project should fix the issue.

I was worried about this. I have about a hundred mods installed and I know many (if not most) of them will not be updated.

    Cheers

This was expected. I think most mod authors will update their mods fairly quickly once the Steam version has been updated as well

Playing BKL with no door announcements and dynamic clouds does seem weird now

They aren’t adding it to Rush Hour release, as the livestream shown the usual looking clouds.

I will, however, update this mod so it’ll work on 4.26. I am going to release an update once the Steam version of TSW 2 gets updated.

I have to be honest the amount of streams I’ve asked about the skybox on and it never gets acknowledged , I thought to myself ,come rush hour it will be sorted.

Low and behold the horrible old clouds are still there

it’s like buying a 4K tv and half the screen is in 640x480. I would have thought a year of people feeding it back, mods being made to improve it that someone would have said

“Right guys, time to look at this”

Ask DTG Team to give you a job in the company, you deserve it. You should ask matt in the live stream this coming week. All of the people here should let Matt know as well.

    Way to go londonmidland :)

I’ve given DTG full permission to use my mod, and perhaps further improve it, however I haven’t heard anything back.

    Thanks for the comment.

Whilst I’m happy to create mods for the game, and perhaps any special requests DTG may ask me to do, I do not wish to work directly for DTG.

Mainly because I like to do things my way, as well as in my own time without any restrictions or time restraints.

Adam already responded to the topic many many Roadmap livestreams ago. The answer was something along the lines of, "We've taken a look at the new clouds mod, but we've determined it is not something that fits our needs." At the time, it sounded like maybe DTG already had some skybox improvements in mind for the 4.26 update but with all the time that has passed I am not certain any more.

    Cheers

Someone has already approached my to ‘try’ my mods out and see if they can implement it officially, however there was no guarantee of it actually happening. They may already be working on their own version or are just too busy working on other things.

But the snow and the overcast grey sky shown on the last Boston stream, really gave me something to look forward to on release!
...or was it to mask an abysmal frame rate?

I think the snow was to show off their new trees (no longer coated in white) as well as some other things. However you can still see they use the horrible looking clouds.

They just look so flat and unrealistic looking.

The next step DTG need to take is to add some depth to the clouds. This will allow the clouds to have some ‘height’ to them, which will make more 3D looking and less flat looking. At the moment we only have a thin layer of very high level cloud.

For something like a thunderstorm or a heavy rain system, which features cumulonimbus clouds, we need that depth to the clouds as they tower thousands of feet into the air. The current cloud system just doesn’t cut it as it only spreads the cloud across the sky, but doesn’t actually differ in height.

Notice here the high level cloud is being hidden by the lower cumulonimbus clouds, from the approaching thunderstorm.

I hope you are seeing this devs. Please put the sky and weather on the agenda now. I'll happily take a break from new routes for a month or two with all the new ones if you can pull this in line.

At some point, Sam saying something along the lines of "If we were making a flight sim then more attention would have been paid to the sky but we are making a train sim and thus we focus on the ground and track".
This is understandable up to a point I would say.

It can't help to think of Red Dead Redemption 2 and its beautiful environment yet the gunplay with dead-eye is so unappealing, to me at least which I find ironic as it is a "cowboys" game, and gunplay should come first. Even in multiplayer, dead-eye, come on...
I was holding off from playing the game for a while because of this mechanic.

A sky as complex as londonmidland shared above requires many particles which is resource heavy and something they need to spend time to optimize. Having a sky like that or even just a better one than what we have does not bring more money so they don't care enough to start working on it.

I agree anD disagree with this….

Take a racing game, you buy it to race cars, people are interested in them yet the community has requested laser scanning and weather. It’s now a complete experience. With flight sim I agree the sky is more important as you’re it yet they’ve released numerous ground and world updates.

In my mind a key part of the immersion is 100% of the world looking authentic, not 70% of it

unreal appears more than capable. The video shows volumetric clouds

Past events tell us it's the optimization that might be putting them away from using volumetric clouds in U.E. more than anything else.
In the same way, they decided to work only with a handful of colors for the cars both on wagons and in the environment, a very wide variety of colors impacted the fps negatively so instead of optimizing they decided to just use fewer colors.

I recently decided to buy West Sommerset and I love the peace and quiet of the route. I'm not a fan of slow-speed routes but this one is ok.
What breaks my immersion is when I see modern cars on this route, it just feels odd.

Going back to clouds, I am also into hiking and I entered the world of DSLR cameras about 15 years so I can capture nature properly and bring it back home with me. :)
If there is anything that upsets me it is a plain blue sky. As soon as you add clouds everything becomes alive in my opinion as you see them moving, becomes an even better-defined space, they give the world more volume.

People look at clouds, and they have generic weather conversations, more than we think. It is a part that is present in our lives a lot and to see it neglected in a game with inclinations towards immersion is dissapointing.

chieflongshin Don’t quote me on this but I recall Matt said that they don’t want to use volumetric clouds due to performance reasons, although he will be able to clarify this.

Either way, we do need more cloud layers as it to all looks pretty flat looking and the ‘same’ currently.
