I just purchased TSW2020 off the Microsoft Store because there is currently a discount if you are a Game Pass owner and I've been enjoying the game on XGP. I already own TSW2 and was thinking that, as a perk, I was also going to get access to the Preserved Collection but then I found out that the content doesn't automatically update between the Win10 and Steam versions of the game. Does Dovetail have any process for activating the DLC using your Dovetail Live account?
Simple answer is no. Sorry. EDIT: I believe if you own the Win10 version of 2020 you get preserved collection for your Xbox TSW2 install?
I was in exactly the same boat as you, and had to repurchase on Steam. Microsoft Store, Steam and Epic versions of the game all count as "different platforms."
You mean what I'm asking for? It is a much different situation since Dovetail has their own login (Dovetail Live) for their games. I was expecting Dovetail Live to work the same way Paradox Interactive account works: if I buy a game or DLC for the PC, it works on multiple storefronts. Considering that we are moving toward an era where there are going to be multiple popular storefronts, that should be an expectation of how things should work, not the exception. EDIT: Plus, no one was asking for a refund. The poster you quoted said they eventually got the game on Steam just to get the Preserved Collection.
I'm not expecting the store to give me something for free, I was expecting the game developer to provide the same benefit to all PC game versions. Yes, the game versions are different but the platform (Windows) is the same. I guess I'm finding out the hard way that the product and not only the platform is completely different which is something I am not familiar with on PC. For instance, if we are talking about multiplayer games, I've never heard of a Steam game not being compatible with multiplayer from an EGS version. EDIT: Apparently this is also a thing with Paradox and Cities Skylines (between Steam and Epic version). So, I get your point now...I need to be more careful when purchasing and stick to one platform in the future in certain cases.
There’s a big difference between the platform you play on (PC, Mac, console, etc.) and the store platform you purchase the game from. Buying a game from Steam doesn’t mean you can also get a free copy from Microsoft or Epic.
but you bought the game at one store, and because you decided to move to another store you are expecting the other store to provide you with what you bought at the first store. In this case DTG as nothing to with what you are looking for. It would be tehe same thingif you had bought from DTG store, then the other stores owuld have nothing to do with porviding you with what was not bought from them
Umm, that part isn’t right, because the DTG store is selling you a key to unlock it on a different store, such as Steam.
My mistake, I never bought from DTG, as there is no incentive to buy from there, and is simpler in this case to go directly to the rwtailer, AKA Valve
Just noticed that Dovetail's own FAQ doesn't mention that TSW content only resides on the store it was bought from re: Preserved Collection. This really should be called out a lot more clearly. Granted, seems like the FAQ was written before they even considered other platforms like Epic or Windows Store.
I used the DTG store a couple of times when they were having a sale, but Steam wasn’t. But I agree it’s more convenient to buy directly from Steam.
