I'm thinking of buying a Rail Driver,
Can I just plug in and play or does every lever need programming first?
What loco's aren't currently not compatible with it?

You will need to calibrate the raildriver in game, but once you will not have to do again unless you unplug it from your computer then you probably have to recalibrate.

    Adding to Michael Newbury
As long as you plug it in the same USB port again the game recognises it's the same RailDriver and you definitely don't need to re-calibrate (which takes like 2 minutes)

Regarding OP questions: Get one! You will never want to go back.

Absoulutely! Bought mine a couple of months ago shortly after RD Support was introduced and most of the trains are a pleasure with raildriver but there are still some which I prefer to drive with mouse and keyboard.
