Hi. In the evening, the Amtrak Lake Shore Limited arrives into Boston South. It's special because it has 2 locos at the front (ACS-64) and just 5 coaches. I would do anything to drive this service, but I can only drive it if I spawn on foot, or through journey mode. And that too, just from Boston south to the depot. I want to drive it from Providence all the way into boston, why cant I do that? Cause its not on the timetable

Does it not stop at Providence? Is there any way to be able to drive this service for a longer run than just the depot?

    Thank you.

    Yes! I forgot!

This train basically starts at Chicago instead of the NEC, so it splits off right after Boston westward instead of heading south. I cant drive it because it goes off the map. :)

That explains that lol So i was at the South station 1 night and notice that train so i just open the doors and just sit in the train as a passenger and about 15 mins later the train started moving with another departing train! and notice the split and a yard and moments later i get a main telling me to restart or quit or whatever lol Anyways i think the only way you will be able to drive that train would to create a route in the route planner with that train! But i get the natural feeling of exploring the Trains and stuff . Would be cool if they added Attachment from Boston to Chicago :)

The Boston section of the Lake Shore Limited goes to Albany, NY where it is combined with the section that comes up the Hudson River line from New York City and the combined train they heads west on the old New York Central Water Level route to Chicago.

It actually now usually has 2 P42's as power since this is the power that goes through to Chicago. The New York section has the dual mode locomotive on it to work into Penn Station so this unit turns at Albany. You are correct in that the Boston section is usually a bag, sleeper, café and one or two coaches, so it way over powered. You are also correct on the sleeper on 67/66. It is open Boston to Washington but stays on the train through to Newport News where it is cleaned along with the rest of the train. You cannot ride it south of Washington.

Yeah, you pretty much can't drive it as it splits off past the Back Bay Station to Chicago. Also, that line is not electrified, so you technically can't drive the ACS64s on it.

Here's a photo of the actual Lakeshore Limited just past the Back Bay Station, thanks to River Rail Photo.

But why does it have 2 locos, instead of just 1? IT's just hauling 5 cars. Better acceleration???

Its because in Albany, New York, the train combines with the New York City part of the train for its run to Chicago. But the Albany to NYC section uses a Duel Mode P32AC-DM loco, which really only operate between Albany and NYC. So the main power to Chicago stays with the Boston leg of the train.
