This is a very niche subject, so probably won’t interest many of you, however for those that are interested, I would like to hear your thoughts and opinions. So, what’s this all about? Personally, I’ve always found the default colour of the orange LEDs, on the PIS in TSW 2, to be too orange looking, and somewhat dim too. I decided to make a comparison, and make my own changes on what I personally for it to look like. In the image attached, you can see I have edited half of the PIS LED colours, with it being a different shade of orange, as well as it looking brighter. The top half of the PIS is what I have edited, with the bottom half being the default colours. I have provided a poll for you to vote in.
The top text definitely looks a lot closer to how it should be and how it looks in real life. Never really noticed it before, but now that you mention it, the default PIS is a bit too orange.
Unfortunately this isn't mod friendly. Only the developers can change this. Although from the responses already, it clear that people prefer the top style.
pis is usually yellow, sometimes with excess consumption of editing, it can become white. I prefer yellow pis. never heard of british pis though, I thought every station has a unique one
If only it were consistent. Ambient lighting and shadow influence the effect. My preference would be for the top, not because it’s the most realistic, but because it would blend better with the in game vibrancies displayed by my monitor.
Very much so. However as you and other people have said, as well as myself, the top colour is of preference. I think it’s brighter and more easier to read. Plus, I believe it’s more realistic looking and more common.
Just noticed that the top right LED of a lower case g is on IRL and off on the DTG version... ***Pedantry!*** **EDIT** And the zeros in the time are the wrong width. They should be seven LEDs wide, with three LED gap in the middle. The DTG ones only have 2 LED gap ***More Pedantry!***
Correct. I’ve noticed a few of the characters are incorrect in size/format as well as spacing. The departure time, for example, looks to be spaced out too much between the numbers. Same goes for upper vs lowercase. It should be ‘Plat’ instead of ‘PLAT’
When it comes to detail, I can be very precise I’ve even offered DTG some suggestions and explained what to change/add so they don’t have to research it themselves.
And I certainly do enjoy your precision in your mods you provide… thanks for attention to the details.
No problem. The smaller details only benefit the minority, but that’s where I get the most satisfaction from.
Can you do something with the bridge outside Gillingham depot, or put the color splashes on the Medway station signs?
I don’t think I’m going to revisit SEHS, simply because of how poor the route is. If you haven’t already, download my SEHS Enhancement Pack
Yeppers. I got a twisted satisfaction, after over a year, finally noticing that the technical markings on the frame of the 146.2 (both variants) are all wrong- they were copy-pasted from the 185.2! (Never would have noticed it but for doing a livery and starting in to copy the in-game model).
To my eyes the lower text in the real pic is ever so slightly darker but not as Orange as DTG have it So the top would definitely be close to reality but from a selfish point of view I find the bottom easier to read with my double vision.
I hope DTG puts more effort on their pis! They can be extremely useful, especially when spawning on foot.
Same here. I believe all they have to do is change the RGB values, which I’ve provided them with. It’s clear the majority prefer the top version.
I've voted bottom but it's not clear cut. I think both look fine and looking at pictures of real PIS in the UK, the colour can vary quite a bit. The boards at my local station are very orange like the bottom half of LondonMidlands pic but then I have also seen it being more yellow like the top. Here are two pictures I've nicked off the internet to show what I mean.
I think real PIS Boards are an orange but - importantly - with a glow that can make them seem yellow (as seen just above). However, in some areas (From what I know mostly the north) it becomes a more Yellow-Orange colour. Regardless, I think it's better to get other things done in the PIS Department, such as rolling out off-map stations to more routes, etc.
