The West of England Line runs between Basingstoke and Exeter St David's, nowadays operated mainly by Class 159's, but for this route, it would be Exeter to Salisbury, and it would be set in the early 1990's, with Class 50's and 47/7's still operating the services to Waterloo. The route in TSW2 would only be from Exeter St Davids to Salisbury, as including Basingstoke would make the route over 120 miles long. I can't see the western end working as a route as it's mostly single track - during this time period it had a sparse service (every 2 hours) sometimes with long waits in loops. It wasn't until 2009 that Axminster loop opened to allow an hourly service. I think it'll work better in TS with predefined scenarios. A 24 hour day with maybe 12 or 13 services isn't going to be best value. An alternative would be to focus on the Eastern End - say Yeovil to Basingstoke - then you have a bit more service potential with the Salisbury to London services being in the mix aswell.
I know it's a long run and would give people some good thrash runs, but this isn't a very good "train line", because even today there's basically one train each way per hour in the daytime and the most exciting thing would be a train going to Yeovil rather than Exeter
