Thank you for making this amazing mod and congratulations DTG for making it official, hopefully it won't be a one off.

I'm sure this will greatly enhance the game, and maybe will cause me to stop playing almost entirely with the default wether selection

Grats londonmidland ...great to see one of your best mods officially recognised at last. The console peeps will finally get to discover what they have been missing all this time.

Hopefully this means the 2 preserved routes which missed getting the new skybox will be updated (GWE & ECW)...but I have no idea how or when this is going to be implemented into core

Thanks. I'm looking forward to people that haven't used this mod/console users to experience it.

It's a big improvement over the default, if I must say so myself.

It certainly is. I believe on the mod page it has one of the highest amounts of downloads, if not actually the highest! This becoming official is really awesome for the console community. But of course also for anyone who is unaware of the forums/mods.

    Well that's a pleasant surprise :o
I'm genuinely curious to see how it'll be implemented, but its a positive change and I'm certainly looking forward to it nonetheless.
    Kudos!

Here’s a quandary…. Will we need to uninstall your mod or are DTG using it as we are now?

I assume once DTG add it to the core game, there will be no need to keep the mod.

They may have even added some extra improvements/changes, however we won’t know until the update drops.

All I know is that it’ll be added to the core. I assume once the update rolls out it’ll immediately change the skybox visuals. I’m not sure how it’ll work on preserved routes which haven’t been upgraded yet, however.

Perhaps there will be a final push to update everything alongside the update.

Currently this mod only works with TSW 2 routes and/or upgraded preserved content. It does not work with routes which still need to be upgraded aka TSW 1 routes using the original skybox.

Could Adam or another developer confirm as whether this will still be the case when it releases, or will all remaining routes be upgraded by then?

Congratulations and very well deserved! It is indeed one of the best mods for TSW 2 that dramatically improve the feel of the routes.

Correct, only routes upgraded to the TSW2 skybox will benefit from this.
Back a few RoadMap streams we talked about potentially restructuring the Preservation Crew schedule to get some of these features rolled out across the back catalogue quicker.

Very, very well done, three times three!

Props also to DTG for recognizing that the player/modder community have a lot to offer. For their further consideration, I recommend trainsimcz Livery Designer mod which increases the layer cap to over 35,000

As a console user I am happy that I will be able to enjoy this great work by londonmidland
And thanks also to DTG for taking this decision. Hopefully we can have more of this in the future.

I'm glad that this beautiful skybox mod is coming to all platforms. However, I'm afraid this will take a very long time, maybe a year or so to get it done, given the generally glacial pace of development of anything related to this game? Is there a chance this will only materialize in the next product?

It's set to come out with the Peninsular Corridor Preservation Update, to be applied to all TSW2-Skybox routes, at the same time. So we won't be waiting forever for this :)

Update: DTG aren't using the exact copy of my mod, but are using one based off the tests they've ran, whilst they were testing my mod.

So this could potentially mean we will get even better looking clouds :)

If the below image isn't photoshopped, then this could perhaps be what we could be expecting?

Looks like your sky mod, indeed. I'm sure they had to change some things just to make it work throughout all platforms. And I do wonder how much they changed the look when it's rainy. In my opinion your mod was a bit too bright at bad weather (no criticism to your wonderful mod - you made the best possible), so i wonder how they changed it when it's rainy or snowy. And I also wonder if this could be another step towards dynamic weather. I mean why not? Obviously at least one person worked on this new sky system. Maybe that person also made some progress towards other achievments concerning the weather [e.g. also thunderstorms are not implemented, yet. Though they obviously had the plan to do so because some mods can activate (poorly designed) lightning. Even with (good) sound, which tells me they had the plan to include it, but scrapped that for some reasons].

I’m looking forward to what they’ve been able to do. It sounds like they’ve at least managed to create much nicer and more realistic looking clouds. As for the lighting during different weather conditions, this is yet to be seen as to whether this has been altered or not.

Hopefully we should find out in the next couple
of livestreams if they’ve already got it running.

I’ve been hoping you’ve been able to give more input than just the sky mod, I know that will be a hush hush but I certainly think the team could benefit from certain feedback at least. Either way this is good news and I’d like to see DTG do more of this. Hey, anything to benefit us right!?

Congratz Londonmidland, I am so happy for you. You deserve it, they should really hire you and give you a job as a sandbox designer. Hopefully, they can use your sandbox DLC and improve it to be even more realistic in terms of more realistic weather dynamics as well. Can't wait to see more of your content. No Joking, they should really hire you. :) :D

Dynamic weather would require rather more than a graphical mod: it would mean adding a whole subroutine's worth of code to the game.

So then I guess this improvement will not come out in time with the Peninsula Corridor preservation upgrade, as was indicated earlier.

Hopefully, they can make the nighttime sky view different from the Morning view with stars constellation and Moon that are different phrases such as warning gibbous, crescent, and others variation. They just have to make the Nighttime view a lot better, because as we know Morning View and Night View are different in the real world, and they always keep on changing.

So this evening I was greeted by a nice surprise as DTG (unintentionally?) showed off my skybox mod in the livestream. Bear in mind they were playing on a dev build, so it isn’t on the public build as of yet.

I am, however, glad we are one step closer, and hopefully it won’t be too much longer until it is released officially for all platforms :)

Yeah, it definitely seems to look better than the original mod. I suppose they're taking the original mod and build upon what it taught them?

Anyway I didn't even spot it, I'm so used to playing with the mod. But it's a really great suprise, very glad to see it's not forgotten. I wish them the very best luck to make something good out of it and be able to release to all platforms.

I agree, there has been work done to it to make it less of an "eye of the hurricane" effect. This doesn't surprise me as they said they would create their own adaptation only using the mod as a reference.

    Cheers

I wouldn't be surprised if more work has been done to it, to further improve the look of it. Such as bringing out the dynamic range of the sky and clouds more, or the way the clouds form, for example.

I know Adam has been working on a few fixes as it is with the mod, such as the 'hurricane eye', as mentioned.

I think something missing from the sky is more colour variation, blue always seems to be blue, I don’t recall early morning purples and reds etc

Yes. We definitely need more variation when it comes to sky colours. I recall GWE having some nice looking sunrises and sunsets, however this was unfortunately not carried over to other routes. The clouds themselves could do with some depth to them, to make them more 3D like.
