    Hello,
I have made this thread so we can talk about good trains that have had not so good liveries applied to them.
An example would be the Class 70 In colas rail (yes the class 70 is an odd train but it looks worse in colas the Freightliner)

To be honest - the class 70 is an ugly train however you paint it :D the designer must have had a day off...

The private companies of Britain had some horrible liveries over their lifespan, not helped by coming during an absolute nadir of design around the turn of the millennium. Particular stand-outs including this grim XCountry one [IMG]

And the mess of this short-lived FGW one, in between the dull but distinct First comapny colours and the nice green of today. What is that line supposed to be? Electricity? Sound? It doesn't scream rail travel to me.

In West Germany, there was the atrocity of painting old rolling stock in the then new ocean-blue-beige paint scheme. One of the most horrible examples was the lovely E18 / Br 118:

I'm not a huge fan of this paint scheme. Honestly, if it wasn't for the Amtrak logo, I wouldn't even know it's Amtrak. (Although technically they're owned by the states' DoT)

To me that looks pretty sharp, actually. Vaguely reminiscent of the old Daylight Limited. Just remove or reconfigure the yellow nose patch.

I do actually like this livery on the HST, but there’s something about it on the 180 that just doesn’t work for me, it looks much better in the First liveries it used to wear.

There was a reason it got the nickname "Vomit Bonnet"

Thats the exact opposite of the title. It is an okay paint sheme on one of the worst looking locomotives.

I actually really love the FGW livery. It's lively and I love the colours. It's far better than the dull, characterless and drab GWR green livery. I know a lot quite like it but I can't stand how bland it is.

I actually don't mind the XC livery. It's not great but I wouldn't say I dislike it. I feel like I have a higher tolerance (and prefer) colourful liveries as I grew up with privatisation in the mid 2000s, so it's all I've really known. I'm kinda glad too as all the BR liveries I've seen look really dull, with the exception of the Intercity Swallow livery which is a classic.

See I was around for the early 90s on the Great Western line with all its elegant Networker liveries, the iconic and distinctive red, white and blue that looked good on anything you put it on, so the switch to these focus-grouped corporate dribbles was quite jarring. The green is plain but historically relevant and calming, OTOH.

Personally, I don't think trains should be tarted up like racing cars. Tacky.

Another example of this would be the TPE class 68s.
While I understand other people can have opinions but how on earth can you like this [IMG]
    not my photo
A much better livery would be the chiltern one (yes, I’m biased. The chiltern ones are my local trains) F6131312-A6CC-4643-8978-AD2BE1E040AD.jpeg
    Actually my photo

The TPE livery is pretty weird but I do like it, it’s sort of out of control but neat at the same time.

Personally I think the ScotRail livery on the 68 is the worst one.

    I completely forgot about scotrail.
I like the yellow end that they had though.

Yeah it could be nice, it’s just the saltire pattern on either end of the loco, it doesn’t really conform to the shape so it just makes it look ‘slapped on’. The Chiltern one is nice, it’s simple and it works.

The DRS liveries are probably my favourite on this one.

The ScotRail one would have been decent had the Saltire been a little lower and to the right, so to fit the blue that sticks out into the yellow.

My only issue is the light blue dots. They look wrong on a loco, they only really fit when in relation with a unit's doors.

Overall the Scotrail livery is always a win :P

Just goes to show how different people's taste is. I love that livery. It might just be my favourite on the railways at the moment. I think it especially suits the 185s and 802s.

One of my least liked liveries is London North Western Railway on the class 350s, to me it looks unfinished. I think it’s the lack of a full yellow front end

Yeah I'm not too keen on it either. I quite like the ex London Midland livery a lot of 350s still wear, but the LNWR livery is one of my least favourites currently. That and my aforementioned hatred of GWR Green make me wonder if I have some kind of vendetta against dark green colour schemes.

That would be a GG1 in the Bicentennial Livery (it's a US thing from 1976).

I mean, it isn't the worst Bicentennial Unit from 1976.....

I'd say MKT's is worse, the whole design feels lazy.....

Also, It doesn't matter what locomotive it is, or what country its in, G&W's corporate paint is always bad, the Yellow and Orange just don't mix....

A test of the Carmillon livery for the BB 22200, thankfully it was aborted for this loco as it doesn’t fit well, but it does on the BB 26000 and 75300:

Did you know there are slight variations between the liveries on the 3 "Nova" classes, its not very noticeable unless the different class are next to each other. It's a neat little addition to get the livery to look good an all different shapes :)

I really like the livery on the 185s and the one on the 802s.
I haven’t seen a 397 yet so can’t comment however nearly anything is better than the 68 livery

You know, I personally don't get why people hate these locos. I mean they're not nearly as good looking as the P42's, but I still think they're over hated.
