What is the purpose of the go via location markers? It’s not like going through them requires anything, but they still hand out AP.
A way of managing the route traffic to keep things flowing. You may notice a danger signal ahead of it which changes as soon as you pass the go via (unless an AI train has reserved the path). I'd prefer these go via to be hidden but that is not possible from the player side. For freight, sometimes they are added in to give you more points. Passenger gives a lot more points (stops and passenger loads). It helps balance it out a bit more.
It also affect dispatcher logic, one the train is far away form crossing point or big station, it doesn't need to take care about it's routing.
