I just finished watching this nice history of the first BR electrics from Ruaridh McVeigh, and thought a thread collecting channels that do similar things might be useful and interesting. I'll list the best ones I've found so far, if anyone has similar (so, history and technical information rather than streams or let's plays of sims or trainspotting or trip report vids), please add them below, cos we all need something to stick on the tablet while we're cruising those LZB sections. EDIT - of course, Ruaridh's channel is also worth exploring, with slightly more in-depth histories of aspects of British locomotion.

Adam Something - does more than transport, but is an amateur infrastructure enthusiast whose videos mainly though not exclusively focus on Central Europe. He has a pretty famous criticism of the Hyperloop and similar gadgetbahns, and although not transport related his urban planning videos are also interesting.

Gareth Dennis - Should be familiar to any fans of British railways. An actual engineer (working on HS2 at the moment, I believe) who is a passionate advocate for decarbonisation through rail, and gives a good idea of what is possible and what isn't. Every Wednesday at 1900 UK time he hosts a live 'Rail Natter', featuring expert guests talking about everything to do with railway engineering. He even explains why the Irish Sea crossing wouldn't necessarily be a horrible idea in one show. Worth a look even if you aren't especially interested in the UK.

Jago Hazzard - London-specific, 5-10 minute videos each telling a short history of an aspect of transport in London from the early days of the Tube to the history of unification and various abandoned lines and stations.

Age of the Train - small channel that sadly appears to be abandoned, but contains an archive of really interesting short films on rail from history. Some clips from the BR Film Unit are included, as well as some fascinating vintage documentaries. I particularly recommend the series 'Losing Track', which was made in 1985 but remains astonishingly relevant today - underlining how British railways have stagnated for so long. I enjoyed especially the episode where a talking head mexplains how London's rail cannot develop further until the completion of 'an East-West Crossrail and a North-South Crossrail'.

Ruaridh McVeigh - mostly UK, though not exclusively - produces histories of specific locos with an emphasis on classic diesel. Worth a look if you want to know more about the NTP TSW route, for example.

Those are the channels I use most regularly for this content - any more to offer?

EDIT to add suggestions from the thread and beyond and keep them in one post:

Geoff Marshall - UK-focused videos specialising in exploring oddities of the network - least-used stations, parliamentary trains and so on, as well as newly-launched rolling stock.

Bigmoodenergy - Transit enthusiast who makes videos, mostly using Cities:Skylines, exploring the history of transportation in the USA.

Bennett Brook Railway - steam-focused short films about the railway.

David Bromage - Australian-based account uploading a range of promo and documentary films about the railways of the UK and USA.

There are more trains that Geoff Marshall did including Class 800/802 GWR

    LNER Class 800/801

    and
    Class 777

    Geoff Marshall Playing Bakerloo Line

What Geoff should have done was retrace his steps while he was in Germany that way he can challenge himself with PZB LZB Sifa. One of the videos he had he failed to reset AWS on Class 700 simulator

I’ve just started rewatching these. They were great (and they did Ireland too a couple of years later).

Don Coffey does some good driver’s eye view videos, based in the North of England, with plenty of text information about the route.

The beloved Youtube algorithm promoted another good channel to me lately - Bennett Brook Railway. A narrow gauge tourist railway in Western Australia, the channel uploads footage of their event days but more interestingly, more old British Transport films from the last days of UK steam. 'Mishap' from 1958, for example, is a film explaining what happened after an accident in the days before in-cab telephones, and the famous 'Pain Train' from 1969 attempts to explain to commuters that trains aren't always late because of bad crewmanship, and many other factors combine to delay them.

No idea how I missed this one! User David Bromage has even more classic rail films - including the excellent Terminal. A lot of US content too, from old UP safety information films to promos for the Norfolk and Western. Worth a look if you're into any old rail.

If you fancy disused UK railway infrastructure, I can highly recommend the YouTube channel of Paul and Rebecca Withewick.

On a side note, I find it rather interesting that railway enthusiasts happen to create a lot of high quality content on YouTube. So while I am far more interested in aviation, I hardly watch related stuff on YouTube. I mean, a lot of the aviation stuff on YouTube is really just pilots showing of, scaringly often doing real stupid stuff while doing so. There are some noteworthy exceptions though.
