I don't really understand the logic of the keyboard combinations CTRL+"-" and CTRL + "=" to switch between the leading loco and the trailing one. For example in a distributed power configuration, a consist composed of two locos (one leading and one trailing) at the head of the consist and one leading and one trailing at the end of the train, I can't use the CTRL+"-" and CTRL+"=" key combinations to switch to the end of convoy locos directly because sometimes and quite often the CTRL+"-" or "=" combination shows me the "Sitting" pop up and not the view switch from the head of the consist to the end of the consist. I don't quite understand the logic of how these shortcut keys work to switch between the different views. If someone could explain to me as clearly as possible what to expect as a result of using these shortcuts, I would be very pleased.
Normally CTRL - or = would be to switch between driving views, so from cab to cab to cab (that's how I understand it from TS1 though in TSW you're not "the train" but a person within it so I haven't used that in a while) So you could find that you use CTRL - and expect to go to the other end of the train but end up in one of the middle driving cabs of a consist
Indeed it is what I feared because to switch from the view of the leading loco to that of the end of the consist it seems random to me and one does not obtain the expected result. The more so as with the view menu (key 0) there is no possibility to switch between the internal views of the different locos quickly as in the use of the CTRL+"-" or "=" keys. Let's hope that DTG works on the distribution and the access to the different possible and conceivable views.
IIRC, ctrl + sends you to the other cab of the MU you're in; ctrl - sends you to the corresponding cab of the other MU So, if we number the locos 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, and your lead driving cab is 1a, then ctrl+ sends you to 1b, and pressing it again sends you back to 1a, whereas ctrl + then ctrl - sends you to 1b and then 2b. Ctrl-0 always sends you back to the driving cab
Just had a play CTRL & - sends you to the corresponding driving point at the other end of the CONSIST, so if you're at the very front then you'll go to the very back. If you're in the middle you'll go to the other driving point in the middle CTRL & = sends you to the next driving point of the unit you're in, so if you're at the front of a consist you'll end up at the back of that unit (which could be in the middle of an entire train) So as an example, I am in an 8 car 377 consist, so there's Cab A & B on the front 4 car unit, and cab C & D in the rear. If I'm in the front (cab A) and I do CTRL & - I end up in cab D. CTRL & - again and I'm back in cab A If I then do CTRL & = I am now in cab B CTRL & = again to get back to cab B If I'm in cab B and press CTRL & - I am now in cab C It's a bit counter-intuitive, but it does kind of work
Indeed that's how it worked in TSW 2020; the problem I'm having is on the US consist with distributed power of two units in the front and two units in the back at the end of the consist. Considering that my two front units are A and B and the end units are C and D if I'm in A in driver view and use CTRL & = I actually switch to B view but using CTRL & - I switch back to A view or it gives me a pop up called "Sitting" but doesn't switch me to D view; at the moment it's quite confusing unless I switch back to A with CTRL & = and then by doing CTRL & - I can switch to C; I'll try again to see what's most appropriate to switch from the head of the consist to the end units of the consist; but sometimes it seems to be very confusing and confounding Still, a big thank you for answering me and putting clear explanations with simple examples that helps understanding at least for me.
So I come back to these key combinations to switch between the different driver views of the different units. In fact by looking closely at the HUD, and always using the CTRL & - or = keys, I found that the power gauges and appearance change depending on the loco; so if I have a HUD showing the particular gauges of one of the locos in the consist (sometimes they are the same between two locos of the same model and directly connected physically) but sometimes they are different and even if they look the same, they do not show the same power values; so when you have the HUD showing that you are in a different loco (using CTRL & - or =) just use the 1 key to get into the driver view of that loco and each time you use CTRL & - or = using the 1 key to get into the driver view will put you into the desired loco. It's a bit confusing and at first glance a bit confusing, but the trick is to see how the HUD reacts to the use of CTRL & - or =. Often CTRL & = will switch the view from loco A to loco B but if you want to go directly to loco C or D you have to watch what the HUD says and then use the 1 key to go to the driver view for that loco. At least that's what I've seen in a US consist with locos A and B at the front of the consist and locos C and D at the end of the consist.
NB: on US locos, the road number is painted somewhere inside the cab so that helps keep track of where you are as well
I agree with you, but when you are in the lead loco and want to go to another loco in the consist, apart from the CTRL & = switch to switch directly between the lead and the trailing loco, if you want to go to another loco in the consist, the CTRL & - switch allows you to see on the HUD display which HUD is displayed for the loco you want to teleport to; then with the destination HUD displayed all you have to do is press the 1 driver view key.
