As someone approaching 80 and accounts with both Steam and Just Trains, I need to watch I don't purchase the same add on's twice. but is it true that the code is different on the same add on and may not work with some scenarios. Surely the product should be both the same?. I am looking at purchasing the Class 60, I see it is available on both Steam and Just Trains, which one should I buy and are they both the same?. Mike
they are completely separate Michael.. With Steam you get a key that you activate within the Steam client and it then downloads and updates completely autonomously. With a direct purchase from Just Trains you download an installer and it is activated/verified with your e-mail and login details, all future updates must be manually downloaded from your account at JT and then installed via that newly downloaded installer. As there is no product key with a JT purchase then it will not be able to be used through the Steam client. The Steam version will have Steam only scenarios supplied with it (i.e. only TS content available through Steam), whereas the JT homegrown version will have those same scenarios plus also extra ones utilizing other third party payware DLC like Armstrong Powerhouse.
For what it's worth I'll only purchase JT stuff from their own site, it will get updates sooner because it doesn't have to wait upon DTG's lethargy to update the Steam version, in fact I'm annoyed that I have a couple of routes of JT's on Steam from back when I was naive and thought I must own all DLC content (relevant to me) available on Steam. Now I wont buy any JT stuff on Steam ever.
The one on Just trains is an older version and the Class 60 Advanced it the better one. The new version on Steam was released by DTG and got a poor reception because of the sounds they use. Like Reef I only purchase Just Trains products directly
The Class 60 from JT and DTG are different products. Both have different good and bad points. Have a look at some YouTube videos and decide.
