So I'm trying to create a scenario on West Cornwall Local on the PS5, A stopping service from Penzance to St Ives at Christmas, Except for some reason Christmas isn't allowed. Is this a bug or is the word not acceptable?
The censoring in the game is completely braindead and seems to exist only to ban words that aren't offensive. Class is also banned, which is annoying when referring to literally any British train.
Probably because it contains "Christ", and is absolutely by design - the profanity filters are way OP. Class contains the word "ass"; therefore, can't be used. It really only needs to look for potentially offensive words when they're in isolation, not when contained in another perfectly acceptible word.
Yes, just properly tried it and confirmed it is being triggered by "Christ" (this is also why xmas works). Strangely, both "God" and "Devil" are allowed though ("Satan" isn't) - so call your scenario "Oh my god, what the devil" all you want Why it's picking up "christ" is anyone's guess.
I think - this one is to do with the last letter of the first word and the first two of the second word.
Too late. It blocks "Saltburn" (it blocks "burn") Oh for- Why did they feel the need to go to the trouble of making it ignore spaces and certain punctuation?
I can’t believe they haven’t looked at this yet. They won’t be able to have such restrictions on the new members only creators club because nobody will know what they will be searching for or downloading. I’ve resorted to giving everything codes rather than using words for my scenarios because so many ordinary words and names fall foul of the Victorian grandfather clock doing the censoring.
On the contrary - I believe the planning of something like this new club is exactly why the filter exists in the first place. I‘d bet this is a measure to facilitate sharing while making absolutely sure that no license holder will find something they deem inappropriate or deem to be misrepresenting their brand.
Yes. God forbid a company hears "passenger" and "class" are being used by their licensee's customers.
I must say, as the official representative of the well known Lamplight Railroad, I would be absolutely shocked to discover one of these players having the audacity to share a scenario called Class 52 Passenger Railtour using assets of the superb Lamplight Railroad! I‘ll have you know that any facilitation of sharing these inappropriate scenarios will result in the immediate termination of all license agreements followed by swift legal action. Couldn’t resist, sorry In all seriousness though, the filter is obviously way too aggressive and really shouldn‘t continue on as is.
It’s total nonsense from a company which are quite happy to slip in a fictional “diversity” livery on freight containers but are then paranoid to the point of stupidity preventing everyday words being used in scenarios. Too much of this snowflakery and I bet we don’t hear a squeak from DTG on the matter.
Railpool is censored too... it's the "poo" in the name the word that triggers it. DTG seems to be censoring any word that has a "inappropriate" word in it. Poo isn't a inappropriate word either, it's a thing that every creature does. Better censor "cut" next because it references murder...
I hadn't realised the built in filter was this ridiculous to be honest - it's part of the platform requirements for all of the platforms we deliver on to prevent bad language but... this is beyond silly. I'll get it on a list to try and improve. We have smarter systems going in for Creators Club (which WILL permit Scunthorpe and Penistone! and no thats NOT a hint they are just my two go-to tests for stupid systems like this ) and it may be we can dump this one and switch it to those systems instead.
Code probably goes along the lines of: serviceName.RemoveSpaces(); for (i=0; i<BannedWords.Length; i++) { if(serviceName.Contains(BannedWords[ i ]) ) { print ("Name not allowed"); } } Where "serviceName" is the name of the service or scenario you entered, and "BannedWords" is a list of banned words.
Let's say the RemoveSpaces() function is a custom one that puts it all upper/lower case and can also remove certain symbols It's not all symbols it removes though, it seems to be blocked by * for example.
This one's just funny. I know I shouldn't be laughing as much as I am at 'poo' (I promise I am mature) but it's among the most passive inappropriate word to censor. There are definitely words that ought to be censored (properly) that I couldn't post here without being banned, but I don't think poo is one of them.
