Just a thread to tell myself and others what your favourite locomotive originating from England is. Mine personally is the Class 101, but I’d love to hear your favourites if you’d mind posting them here.
It came later. The 47 started production in 1962; the Kestrel prototype was built in 1967. It was designed as a straight-up express passenger engine, not a multi-purpose loco; it made the run from King's Cross to Newcastle 14 minutes faster than the Deltic, and that was with a traffic delay. 4000 hp with AC power generation.
My favorite has to be the Class 92! It is a amazing loco that helped connect Britain's railways to the rest of the world.
Pre-2000s, I'd have to say the Class 43 (HST). Its design and general iconic-ness sets it apart from all the other locomotives out on the lines. If I had to pick any modern train, it would have to be the Class 803, Lumo's brand new Hitachi train sets. Not only do I love the paintjob on it, the interior is nice and comfy, and is a massive step up from the other Class 800s.
I love all trains from all eras but I'm extremely partial to the ol' GWR Pannier Tanks. Their shapes are pleasing to the eye. I find the SVR's GWR Class 1500, no. 1501 especially lovely
Class 390 uses the same Pendolino tilting system as ETR 610 Rabe 503 Acela & Avelia Liberty NEC Boston-Providence. Special Paint 390 119 Pride. Now for Diesel Dual Mode Class 800 & 802. Special Paint 800 008 Trainbow 800 321 Mask
158s for nostalgia factor: HST as an iconic loco Class 60 for freight simply because they pull huge loads (for the UK)
My favourite in game is easily the class 101, such a fun drive and keeps your mind focused. IRL I would have to say a 158/159
What could potentially be a class 99 in the background Spoiler Class 99's were the ships owned by British Rail
I love the Class 101, Class 43 HST, and Class 67 Freightliner. First time I tried the 101 I hated it. Once I learned how to actually drive it, I started loving it. It's a great locomotive. I think my vote goes to 101.
