DTG receives one Attaboy for moving with such alacrity to get the "zero-speed" and (most of the) perma-red bugs fixed in a matter of days, not months. 10 Attaboys entitles the recipient to 5% off the Starbucks beverage of his or her choice (small size only). However, one Ohcrap wipes the slate clean.
Yes, nice set of fixes just before the holiday. Just hope it downloads quickly over the hotel wifi. I’ve only had a brief look at the release notes but I think it clears all but one of my remaining tickets.
Compliment to Dtg about care to bugfixing in this case yes, Compliment to get Routes like London to Brighton working with that amount of services, yes. Compliment for the preservation crew to put work into old routes, Yes. Golden star No! Why --> Beside the improvements and new content, which i mostly enjoy overall there is one particullary thing that annoyes me: Compared in 2021 to older releases, the Rolling stock seem to get cuts through the backdoor in terms of features --> That is highly disappointing: - The SD40 of the first TSW dlc "Sandpatch" has modeled engine rooms, while the sd40 of clinchfield has this fantasy selector in the cab for engine start. - Engine Room of the GP9 is not modeled --> also a fantasy selector in the cab to start the engine - The AC4400CW of Sandpatch has a Mileage counter, which is not just operational, you can set different options. Same for the slowspeed control, its operational --> Not in the newest DLC of the SD70 Sherman hill, all not working... I dont expect fully implemented MU working for US locos, but i expect at least not going steps back, like with everything else in real too. To get to my Point: I dont like it at all when the development process of my invested money goes backwards. To turn my "Rant" into something constructive, this will be my first suggestion for the new year.
I don't think any of the more mature members have ever seriously suggested that DTG "never fixes anything". The problem is that the major problems such as the save function, various sound, lighting and signal/ safety issues, many of which date from the very beginning of TSW, do not seem to receive attention, even an acknowledgement, years after they first occurred. And much of the work of the Preservation Crew still remains unreleased, months after it was apparently completed. Anyway, not wishing to be a grinch, I'm grateful for any improvement to the core.
I wondered what the big update was, in addition to the two routes I just bought. Kudos to DTG for sorting it out, they can now have their mince pies and Xmas cake unconfiscated!
From what I have seen many times in these forums, we usually go from a state of optimism to a state of negativism and back again quite abruptly. We are passionate, that's for sure. But if we take a cold look at the situation at any given moment it is never all bad and never all good. There is more grey than black and white in TSW. Similarly, there seems to be a lack of empathy and understanding for DTG here at times, but I also see that when they do a good job they are acknowledged and appreciated. And I really like that about this community. I think it's tough but fair. One person writes disappointed and a few days later writes excited about some announcement. Or the other way around. He's not a hater or a fanboy, just a train enthusiast.
I had a perfectly good rant all drafted out ready to post in Jan about how DTG had ruined Xmas with these bugs and how disgusting it was that they had rolled out an update so close to Xmas etc etc and not fixed it over the festive period. Now what am I going to cry and moan about in the NY? DTG - you've ruined my Christmas with this fix, I hope you are satisfied
Now THAT was a genuinely creative juxtaposition!! There's no emoji for it here, but that sensation you feel is me patting you on the back.
You forget the steam Wintersale with good discounts ruining the budget for XMas dinner ... Very disappointing all this last minute behaviour of DTG
Don't want to be "that guy", but the speed limit bug should have never made it to the game in the first place IMO, same with a lot of other bugs or even unfinished-looking content that many times, does take way too long to fix. Of course it's great that there was a quick fix this time around, but let's not pretend that this is the norm, unfortunately.
I don’t think anyone would disagree re the speed limit bug… Let’s hope the same determination can now fuel fixes to the long standing bugs, like the save game routine.
The day I see a positive comment from you I'm going to play the lottery (and win) and also might take a shot at a BOTB competition and most likely win a Lamborghini and £100k in cash.
A business run by human beings who, like all human beings make mistakes. There is a notice where I work "if you don't make mistakes you don't make anything!" There are a few posters who only ever seem to turn up to complain you never see them offering praise.
[removed by Protagonist - your comment wasn't a problem in itself, but did rather continue the swerve toward off topic]
Well, you are being that guy! Unfinished looking content is subjective as well as many of the sound discrepancies people point out. Not game breaking problems such as this. Give them credit for getting the fix out before the holidays so people can enjoy time in the simulator over the Holidays without the back-handed compliment. Not stating they are Johnnie on the spot for fixes, but extremely tired of the continuing myth DTG does not care and never fixes anything as many threads seem to imply. I know frustration is common and not unexpected when a feature, function or scenery one is passionate about seemingly isn’t been paid the attention one would hope or expect, but maybe get in the spirit of the season for just this one effort and say “Thanks DTG for getting this fix out”. best
If you see what I wrote as "backhanded", then I could say that that's your subjective interpretation. And I don't really think that people need to go out of their way to "thank" a company for fixing products they spent money on. Of course I'm glad to see them fixing bugs, but a lot of their problems are self-inflicted, bugs that any player can notice after a short playtime, that I feel should have been noticed beforehand in QA.
It is annoying to see people rant and rave when they clearly don't know what they're talking about for sure. But the best thing to do is ignore them, and actually pay attention to those making nuanced criticisms. After all, if there opinions aren't that well informed, why waste your time with them? Spending all this time chatting about how annoying they are just gives them what they want, which is attention most of the time. And you're taking away attention from those who do actually know what they're talking about, and need their voices boosted.
Around here, definitely. To some people the wrong horn sound or an overpass painted the wrong colour is "game breaking."
There's too much of a tendency towards hyperbole in this thread. Look, the main purpose of the forum for me is to draw attention to the problems and shortcomings of the game as it presents to us, the players. Credit where it's due, if you wish, but over effusive praise does nothing to advance the game. I'm not here to toss cream puffs at DTG or its employees. Yesterday I posted that the Preservation Crew deserved credit for WSR. In the same post, I criticised the people who are holding up the release of needed improvements. I think that's the kind of constructive criticism we need. Yes, there's more that is right with TSW than is wrong. But it's the things that are wrong that we need to focus on. Gushy compliments to a faceless entity are not useful. Sure, in business terms a little praise where it's due is fine, but an occasional dose of criticism is also needed. That " Year On The Rails" article has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, I believe, even though I think it was strictly an exercize in PR.
Hey Guys, this has been fun, more or less, but it's Christmas. Can we all just bring it down a notch and agree to get along, even if it's just for a little while, huh. Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, and a happy holidays to all!!
[removed by Protagonist - argument continuation] Can't agree more. I also don't deny there has been some good stuff released this year but also some major bugs which don't seem to be getting any attention.
