I'm considering to buy the Class 20. Not because I particularly like the locomotive, but because Tees Valley is one of my favourite routes and having even more traffic added to service mode would be pretty cool. But question is, how much more traffic in service mode will I see with the Class 20 added to Tees Valley? I already own the Class 31.
You can play it in the following services: https://smtimetables.herokuapp.com/loco/76/route/42 If I remember correctly, most of them are already existing. The new ones are something like 4 services.
I’m not a big fan of the Class 20 DLC. Very few services added although it subs in for quite a lot. Although the model is good, the grey colour gets washed out with the lighting on TVL much more so than the Class 37, which I would have thought was the same shade of grey. On PS4, maybe not so much on PC but I couldn’t tell you, the loco does not look good at mid distance because of LOD issues. It sounds pretty good (or at least it did in TSW2020) and is good to drive. It adds some variety but not much in the way of content. It also makes an appearance in WSR if you have that.
Now March madness is on, I'm too weighing up Class 20 or 31, at the moment verdict coming down in favour of the latter.
I love the feel of the cab, the layout of the controls, and the driving view. I also like the way the headlights look. The sounds are good, including the horns. Being in the 31 cab just feels right to me and it’s always a fun drive.
Got the 31 and I love it! Especially hauling around a broken Metcam DMU. Just a shame they haven't put in a timetable layer for it on NTP yet (hint).
I’m considering getting the 20 as well whilst it’s on sale. Does it sub into any other routes like on railtours or freight runs?
The Class 20 adds to TVL: 1 Introduction 3 Scenarios 25 services in journey mode 3 services with solo Class 20 in timetable mode 32 services with double Class 20 in timetable mode WSR: 28 services with solo Class 20 in timetable mode
What's what it can operate, not what it adds. All the WSR services are sub only, as are a lot of the Tees Valley services - the 20 adds 4, but works on the SEHS railtour (not too sure on the ECW one) too. I must say I prefer the 20 over the 31 for some reason, but that's not to say I don't like the 31. The passenger services for the 31 aren't exactly my cup of tea, though. I'd love to have it on NTP too, hopefully the memory issue on NTP is fixed so when Adam gets round to it something can be done on that front, even if it's just substitution with the existing services.
True, if you look at it that way, there's not much "new" added, but running the same service with two or three different locos is a whole new service, each time, because all locos run and feel differently and I don't care how often I run the same service if I have a few locos I can choose from. It also adds more variety to the AI. And if we are honest, the timetable repeats itself constantly over the 24 hours, in every route. It's just different names at different times, the route always remains the same, maybe with a few differences at the beginning and at the end. So variety in locos can't hurt, no matter how much new stuff is really added or just substituded. I forgot about SEHS railtour, 4 services. Thanks for mentioning it.
Yeah, I mean if you do take that point then there'd be basically no point in getting the 465 - all it's services are in the abse route.
Very nice model thats fun to drive. Would love to see it on other routes though as I’m not a great Tvl fan.
Thanks Trenomarcus, I've just bought it in the Christmas sale and only have the 3 [additional?] services, so I'll raise a ticket.
Change the livery. It comes with 4 but for some reason you need to change the livery to get access to the rest.
Oh wow, so I choose the x2 light engine and the 25 services appear, swap back to the original and they also then appear, so it's a bug. Thanks Cam, I didn't know the loco variants were hidden either - I would have assumed they were all displayed, but it's much neater this way!
I don't understand it though - both are a double-headed Class 20 IIRC. Logically they should all be in the same list (and I believe they were in TSW2020).
Oh and the 3 new services look to be - 6E47 Redmire to Tees Yard 10:50 00:08 6E48 Tees Yard to Redmire 11:00 00:12 6E49 Redmire to Tees Yard 15:50 00:11 (not on Trenomarcus's helpful site)
Thanks, Daytona, appreciated. The services seem to be there: 6E47 https://smtimetables.herokuapp.com/train/3053 6E48 https://smtimetables.herokuapp.com/train/3052 6E49 https://smtimetables.herokuapp.com/train/3054 Let me know if there is something wrong!
