Today I suggest the railways around Birmingham New Street. This would include the West Coast Mainline from Coventry to Wolverhampton, the Cross city line from Litchfield to Bromsgrove and Redditch, and the line from Rugeley to Birmingham and Walsall. This network has incredible variety in services and rolling stock. Services would be run by West Midlands Trains (West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway), Avanti West Coast, Transport for Wales and Cross Country. All of the trains that run on this network are the following: Class 158 TfW Class 170 XC Class 172 WMR Class 220 XC Class 221 XC and AWC Class 323 WMR Class 350 LNWR Class 390 AWC As you can see, a huge variety which is why I want this route in game.
It would be a great idea, only issue being for base DLC you normally only get two train types, without layers from other routes. So for the modernish era you’re probably looking at a 323 and 350 which would operate the suburban services, but likely to end up like Cathcart with nothing to represent the Inter City services.
I don't think we would see all three routes you mention in one DLC. Simply too complex to build and implement. However on their own the routes would be an ideal size, but maybe with fewer train types as including more than two new trains in one route is unlikely to happen anymore.
Would love to also see the new street- Malvern line. This includes the lickey bank, and the Malvern hills. Two very famous landmarks and a certain challenge for those driving historic stock. This could include a layer from the GWR route (or even a class 800 if that ever gets added!) Using similar trains to those above. The 166s still run every day though here, aswell as 158s and class 800s. Class 66s do also run on this bit several times a day hauling tesco containers, and steel to and from Wales. This area is also prolific with specials so would be ideal for layering in most if not all of the historic British diesels.
I don’t even need to read to vote yes. Transport for Wales and CrossCountry may be a step too far though.
The Cross City line is ~32 miles, with 25 stations. The section of the WCML from Coventry to Wolverhampton is 30 miles and 71 chains - near enough 31mi, and has 18 stations (17 if New Street is excluded, as it's on the other lines as well). The Rugeley - Birmingham section is an extra 31 miles and 54 chains, with 15 unique stations. So overall this suggestion is asking for; Over 95 Miles of track 57 Unique Stations 8 types of rolling stock 5 Train Operating Companies Of them, only AWC and XC are known to be in the game's files Only AWC and XC appeared on TS Classic, the latter was withdrawn. WMR/LNWR are owned by Abellio, who don't do licensing, seemingly. As much as this could be the best route TSW would have to date (it seems like it), it's not gonna happen. It's not a case of: But a case of: "We have to be realistic."
Its hardly realistic at this point, and also you forgot to mention that there is more than 4 stations on the Coventry - Wolverhampton section of the WCML has more than 4 stations.
My point exactly. It's not gonna happen. My bad, it's 18. Although, this does kind of make your suggestion look even less likely.
Most likely would be Cross City from Lichfield to Redditch, bearing in mind already done for TS. Or maybe Coventry to Wolves with the option of running via Bescot, probably squeeze in Walsall but that would be about the limit.
I know, it's a suggestion not me saying it will happen. It's for when Tsw2 becomes more powerful and is capable of such a route.
Absolutely a great idea and did you include Birmingham Cross City Line to Worcester via lickey incline
Hmm, imagine how great seamless modular route extensions would be for this. Design the whole networx, release it over a 2 yr period as 4 DLC's. Do one for Germany and the States too....well, just a thought.
Well Run 8 did this with their western USA routes, so you can go over 400 miles from east to west if you like. Of course Run 8 has the advantage they don’t provide any form of structured activity or journey mode, you just spawn trains in and drive. After a while it got kind of pointless even with the industry sub game. Ditto SCS with ATS and ETS2 though of course their maps are massively cut down, something like 1:18 scale for Europe.
TSW2 is already powerful enough - though lag would be a factor in central Birmingham when all the trains meet. It's a matter of development. They probably could build the 95 Miles of track and the scenery relatively easily. They could get Rivet in to help, like they did for GCC. However, the Rolling Stock - with all 8 units not seen in game, and no two are the same - and the Stations - all needing unique models for station buildings, footbridges, signs, and any other unique features that may be there. All of that stacks up and the issue becomes development time. The longer it takes, the more it costs to make. So it's unlikely this will ever happen (as one DLC). Although it would be great to have.
I agree that some trains would be left out, don't need XC or TfW but I listed all of the trains that are on that line so that we can see all of the options.
Well they have already kinda set up a similar thing with Routes from Bochum - Duisburg, Hagen - Finnentrop and Hagen - Wuppertal. Connect up with the Bochum - Hagen line, and also connect that with SKA with Duisburg - Koln. And let's not forget about MSB.
https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/birmingham-hereford-line.50307/ Williammjwallis made this suggestion for the Hereford - Birmingham line, go check that out.
It's not commercially viable. If they did it they would probably have to halt every other bit of DLC.
