The new german route has really blown me away especially with the new tilting technology, and I am so excited to get it next week. Now that the team can do tilting train, which route would you like to see? For me, I really want to see all Amtrak Acela, Maglev Train, and of course the high-speed train which is the Shinkansen, along with other Tilting Train in the world such as Pendolino
I think we'll see an ICE-T loco DLC for Dresden & Acela for Boston in 2022. I would also love to see either a UK Pendo or a super voyager released for the UK but we'd need a suitable route for it releasing. Unless a TP releases a Japanese route I don't think we'll see one in 2022 as I suspect they'll be too busy with age of steam.
If we get a Pendolino or an ATP-P we also need a high speed line with sharp curves to make the most of tilting, and most WCML sections are either an awkward length or need more than two new train types built for them to get an adequate coverage of services, and that's not even including freight. So we probably won't see one anytime soon, at least not until we get a few other routes first where various train types can be layered on or modified from. It wouldn't do the WCML any justice with an empty timetable...
Considering that Word of God is that the Boston route already includes an Acela layer hidden in the timetable, that's pretty certain money.
Realistically as a loco DLC pack what is going to sell more? Plus I didn't think the HSPs tilt do they? A HS train that virtually every single railfan across the world has heard of or a obscure commuter train pack which few out of that corner of the US will be familiar with?
Lancaster to Carlisle would just about be within the scope of TSW. Give us a 390 and 221, plus room then for a classic layer DLC with AC locos 81 - 90 for us old dinosaurs.
As much as I'd love to see the WCML in TSW2, I don't want it until DTG have figured out the best way to deal with merging routes and applying service timetables, so in time we gradually get stages of the whole Euston - Glasgow (however many stages that may take). Anyway, that's going off topic, I think the next tilting train we'll see will be the ICE-T.
I would love an ICE-T. I really hope it comes. The UK APT would also be very interesting. Though I’m not sure what route it could run on. I don’t really know much about other UK tilting trains. I enjoy UK routes but I’m a bit out of touch with modern trains. While I don’t personally want it, I think a lot of people will want the Acela, so I hope that comes as well. Generally though, I was quite impressed and interested in how they will use this technology more in the future.
What I would love to see would be a line like Karlsruhe- Mannheim with the SBB RABe503 or Basel-Freiburg; LZB and a ton of freight and ICE services!
The Acela's a shoe-in for sure, but otherwise I wouldn't expect much more tilting trains beyond that within the next year. Keep in mind we've got Spirit of Steam happening, and I suspect DTG are probably gonna do a couple of steam era routes once that tech's finally put into place, and I think that will be the focus for the latter half of the year. Also there's quite a lot of content that could keep them busy as is without ever factoring in tilting trains.
For me to open my wallet for the Acela it would first need the signalling on Boston fixing. Much like with Rivet & Arosa, had the timetable not been fixed I wouldn't have contemplated buying the anniversary pack. An ICE-T would however be a day 1 purchase. I dont think I'd be alone in my views either.
As much as the British APT is concerned, would be too niche. It never saw public service and was plagued by teething problems. Working for the railway I was lucky enough to get the chance of a staff familiarisation trip in 1980, from Euston to Preston. Unfortunately the tilt system was faulty and isolated. My overall impression was that while first class and dining was okay (the trip came with a complimentary 3 course meal) second class was very spartan hard, by UK standards, seats harsh white panelling and stark strip lighting added to which a claustrophobic feel from the canted in vehicle sides. The highlight of the trip for me, was being invited by the Area Operations Manager at Willesden to come up front with him for a cab ride from Preston back to Rugby on a Class 86! Now that was rather grand.
My favorite would be the DB BR 605 known as ICE-TD. Why? It would fit perfectly to DCZ of course but to Hamburg Lübeck as well. Repaints of this unit in DSB (Danish) blue-silver livery adding more variety on this route. Additionally, the BR 612 and BR 605 using the same engine, a Cummins QSK 19 with a power output of approx. 650 kW per car. On the downside, only 20 sets were built and they are not in service anymore. My second choice is the DB BR 611/615 known as ICE-T. This unit can be find anywhere where ICE's running and there are still in service after 25+ years. Looking to the UK and after watching a lot of documentary's about the HST and APT, it would be more then exciting to see the ATP! In my POV the UK was, beside France and Japan, one of the leading train industry nations in the 60's and 70's and they did great job at Derby Works. It's a shame there is, more or less, no domestic British train industry anymore.
Rabe 503 Final Destination is Milano Centrale via Gotthard Base Tunnel Northbound Domodossola Bern Railway the Simplon Lötschberg Base Tunnel
One survives it's a Test Train for Deutsche Bahn Netze. Regarding ICE-T the versions for it are 411/415 in Austria the 4011.
You mean a TSW2 Gotthardbahn Erstfeld to Belinzona the Rabe 503 doesn't run the old tracks instead it uses the Base Tunnel at Erstfeld instead of Ariolo Italian speaking side Swiss German side Gösnochen
That would be superb - but Preston would be a better starting point, being a regular crew-change location, and a station where all trains stop. It’s 79 miles from Preston to Carlisle, which sounds a lot, but it’s a pretty straightforward 2-track railway throughout. The total track mileage which had to be re-created would be less than BML, and the number of trains, stations and buildings far less. I’d have thought it would be possible. Also, I’m sure what you meant to say was a true 1980s recreation, with a 390/221 layer for the kids. ;-)
Replying to my own post (sorry) but of course if DTG set a West Coast route in 2002-2005 it could feature any or all of 86/87/90/221/390 in the same era.
Hoping to see the Class 370 APT-P. DTG made it for TS’ on the WCML Over Shap route so they must have the research for it. Hopefully it would be included in a TSW version of WCML Shap if they ever make one, preferably if/when the average route length increases as the 370 would need a good, long run. Pendolino would be nice too but the APT-P is a thing of beauty and simply needs to be in TSW
Yes. I did consider via the Cumbrian coast, but most people don’t have half a day to spare to drive a TSW route. ;-)
