Besides the now fixed 64 bit looping sounds on the AP Class 40, another comment I read somewhere was that the sounds were perhaps a bit too quiet compared to the real thing.

I recently acquired the 40145 and that too had much quieter sounds than, say, a 37, from outside too.

I never really saw them in real life, but from what I've seen on YT videos, the real thing does sound a little louder.

What are others opinions? Does anyone else notice a difference? Is there a way to "crank up th volume" in the sound files somewhere?

I have noticed if you run the loco from the cab it does seem a little quieter than I remember riding in them ;)
If you go to the outside window view they are a lot noisier and they are in view 2
There is a way to crank up the volume - I have a knob on the speakers - but I have never tried adjusting the locos files

Yes of course, I have tried that, but it just means you get deafened by an AWS alert!

As you would per real life... I'm on annual leave for the next 2 weeks & the Mrs is in work till Tuesday so I'm determined to hook up my sons gaming chair that has inbuilt speakers up to the laptop while she's in work & crank up the volume...:D

The external 40 sounds are WAY too quiet.

That’s my thinking. Do you know how the tweak the volume in the files?

I don't, sorry. I wish I did. There's hardly any difference between internal and external sounds, which is unusual for AP products, as the outside sounds is deafening compared to internal normally... as it should be.

Maybe the same, generous, AP fairy that read about the sound looping issue and sorted it will also read this, and an update will be anounced in a week or two :)

I think you need to compare the proxybin files for the 40 and something else, like the 37, and see if there is a volume setting

Can't find the files... They're not in the AP folder any way.

They would not be for the Class 40 as they did not make it

I don't have a RailRight folder either. That's who made it isn't it?

That is weird as I have my class 40s Blue, Green and Mainline in the RailRight folder - where are yours?

Yes, it's the same. The one on AP's site was a more generic pack, whereas the one on Steam models one locomotive. AP only did the sounds and scenarios.

If I remember correctly, AP either bought the class 40 '40145' from or developed along with Railright. I believe that 40145 on steam is only one variant of the class 40 wheras the AP pack had about 200 variants.

Yes, there is only one albeit large and small BR logos. I bought it as it was on sale at 65% off and just too tempting.
Will probably treat myself to the Just Trains 40 next month when hopefully it will be in a Xmas sale.

I know the model was by railright but weren't the sounds done by AP?

    ;)

I don't know why DTG are now saying it's an AP product when it isn't, unless there's been a rights change that we don't know about.

If you had it you would see their name on the front of the Manual along with RailRight.

I think AP and RailRight must have a reason for the pack being withdrawn

Not because an improved version (sound wise) might be in the offing?

Yeah, and we'll probably have to pay £30 for it.

Why would AP attempt to sell something that people already own?
They have not done that so far

It might be down to the agreement between AP and RailRight coming to an end

175 Enhacnement Pack when it was updated to work with the new SWC, Class 50 when they added the unrefurb variant. An argument could be made for and sound pack that was taken down and replaced with an EP (like the 158) or standalone pack (like the 319).

They took down the class 86 and 87 sound pack, and replaced it with the class 86 EP, but no one forced me to buy it, and I can still download and use the old sound pack if I want. I can still download the class 40 as well.

Side topic: The Railright class 40 that was recently removed from sale had the looping issue. Is there a patch for it that fixes it?

No, I think only the AP version was fixed.

The AP version was pulled from the AP store as well. Was that becaus ethere were still unresolved sound issues?

I own the AP class 40, I always play on 64 bit and never noticed any obvious audio bug. Granted, I never drover a real class 40 so there might be nuanced things I fail to notice, but nothing that sounds like a clear obvious sound bug/glitch.

Sad to see rubbish like NS SD70M still in the stores (I heard the horn is good ;)) and stuff like this withdrawn. Very high quality standards... maybe too high? I think AP will rerelase it as soon as they've fixed it.

AP did an update to try and cure some of the sounds - as a previous purchaser you can still download it
How different it is I'm not sure

I think some of APs stuff has been removed as it's no longer considered to be of modern standards - the 142 pacer pack could be in the pipeline for a revamp in terms of sounds and model - Same with the Class 101, I think they went out and were doing more recordings.

It's a shame though, because if you want Major Wales's Class 153 pack, you won't be able to use it as it requires the 150/153/155 sounds that are no longer available.

The Class 101 is still in use on a number of preserved lines around the country and the sound don't have to come from a 101

To make the Major Wales 153 pack work you just need to make sure the bin files are pointing at default sounds

Wouldn't mind if they just released a 142 sound&performance enchancement pack for the Dovetail pacer. I think the dovetail model&texture is nice, but wish it had better sounds. An AP enchancement pack would do the trick imho.

Well, then I guess I'm one of the lucky 64 users for whom the update worked. I never noticed any glitch, but I got my class 40 after the last AP update.

Do you have instructions about how I can do this 749006? There are a number of reskins that I am missing the AP sound packs for, so it would be useful to learn how.

    Each case would be different

Having installed the reskin you then need to look at the the Default products *.bin file and compare it with the reskins version
You would only be bothered with the Audio references

However if you have never edited a *.bin file it is not easy.

Do you have a link to instructions? Knowing enough to be dangerous, I think I would use serz to convert the .bin to XML, update the XML, then use serz to convert back to a .bin.

I open the default XML the way you said and open it with Notepad
Then I would do the same with the reskin.
Looking thru the reskin I would look for Audio and at some point it points at an AP Folder for the Sounds
Compare that with the default XML and change the Reskin to match the default
