hello it's normal that the MG brakes are not animated I find it a shame (example) with a db br 101 plus 7 cars in R + Mg position it's 76t-75 depending on the cars and as the Mg brakes are not not animated it makes our braking ratio decrease in position R the mass is 139% and in R+mg (the Mg brake is not counted just the R brake in red) we have a braking ratio of 147% so the convoy brakes 0.94 times less although in irl (note the values are correct the physics is very good it's just the wrong braking position)
Mg brakes are not simulated in TSW at all. That doesn’t really matter though since they’d only be used in an emergency brake application anyways.
(look at the ICE 3 the Mg brakes are animated) for the 101 yes it changes because you have the normal R then the R in red which is in the R+Mg selector and in emergency brake we have another weight
Do you have a video of that? Matt has confirmed on stream before that Mg brakes are neither simulated nor animated.
Ok, I just checked. The ICE3M does have animated Mg brakes, but based on Matt’s comments I assume that they’re not actually simulated in the brake performance. If someone wants to test that, be my guest. The Br 612 does not have animated Mg brakes.
I'm not sure if these brakes are actually obligatory on these trains IRL due to excessive wear of the rails. // Someone wrote something about it on this forum once. // or maybe it was just a dream... BR o7
I just had to Google this, it's magnetic breaking, a magnet physically pulls a friction surface to the track to brake the train.
As a visual guide, if you see what looks like a long cluster of cubes between the axles of a bogie, that is a magnetic brake (Mg brake). Edit: Scratch that. See Maik Goltz’s post below.
Not always. There are two types of those brakes. The ICE does have not a magnetic brake but a eddy current brake. It works different and does not have any contact to the rail at all. That is why it is animated on the ICE and not on the others. They are different brakes. But at least, it is not simulated on all yet.
You learn something new every day. I knew the ICE3 has eddy current brakes, but I never looked up what they look like. Thanks for sharing
