I do like scenarios that keep you on your toes through adverse signalling, so you are not sailing from A to B with all signals at green. There's a good new one in the new Chatham Main Line London Victoria to Dover - 10 [377/1] 5Z72 1102 London Victoria to Faversham. (Now I type it out, I wonder if this came with the AP EP and not the DTG route?) Another one commented on before is on the London to Brighton line - LB League Cup Special. I do believe there was a scenario on one route called Chasing Yellows, but can't at the moment recall where it was. Anyway, please add your own recommendations for 'chasing yellows' and other challenging signalling.
I very much enjoy these scenarios as well....I found the Chasing Yellows scenario---Great West Mainline....You really have to be attentive...it seems to me that DTG don't make these type of scenarios of late, most scenarios are A-B runs, maybe with a time component thrown in...
The "Waiting for Freight" scenario on the Liverpool Lime St to Manchester Piccadily route has lots of adverse signalling too, if my memory serves me correct.
I have run this one a few times - [DPS] 4L91 - 0210 Trafford Park to Felixstowe North https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=540079460 You just potter along and wait in a loop for a 378 to clear and follow to Stratford but watch those signals
The scenario is a DTG one, I know that because I was the one that made it , I did all the scenarios in the Chatham Victoria Dover Route (although no scenarios would have come from an AP enhancement pack though) but also thank you
I remember a scenario where you ran ECS from Victoria to Faversham - maybe from a combined route. That was quite good as having roared out of Victoria you start catching up with trains in front and run on Yellows
Basically this one (below link), admittedly I did borrow that one scenario (I made the below one and put it in the Chatham route, but that being said the other 9 were made for the route and you normally get 7 per route ) Workshop Steam::5Z72 1102 London Victoria to Ramsgate E.M.U.D. (No Reskins) (steamcommunity.com)
On most routes it is simple enough to edit the quick drive scenarios to place adverse traffic running into loops or portals ahead of your service with a random probability from 1 to 100 % of it spawning. What would make it easier would be a list in the manual of which AI quick drive consists come with the route and how they are designated, as trying to work this out is the most time consuming and tedious part of the process. Even better would be routes which came with adverse traffic included in the quick drive but I guess that ain't going to happen.
I put one I made on ATS... Preston to Barrow.... It was very yellowy. I need to redo that scenario now On Track have finished the route to Barrow.
Football Special on London to Brighton, or whatever it's called. It's a run of the entire route to Brighton, non-stop. The train leaving ahead of you is the one that winds up arriving before you, and while there's a block of greens along the way, you have yellows up to East Croydon and somewhere 10 minutes or so from Brighton. You want to have the last signal in sight (red) when it changes as the timing is tight.
As inversnecky said in the first post it is called LB League Cup Special. I have swapped out the player train and ran it with the 377, a 319 and a 442 - nice to listen to the motors when powering along
Ah, I knew I had the wrong name. Missed that as I was eager to comment on the scenario and stopped reading. But I agree, it's a nice scenario.
Very strange. Looking for this scenario after a couple of weeks and it’s no longer there! I had favourited a couple of other scenarios in Careers, and there are now no favourites listed. Not sure if the others have ‘disappeared’ too. I look at the new CML and there’s only seven scenarios listed now. Did DTG deleted three of them, or is something gone screwy with my setup? (I have looked under CML and Class 377, but no luck.)
I have it in my Chatham listings. Just a thought have you tried clicking on the Cross in the search box? I have had a similar issue with disappearing scenarios and clicking this cured it.
On the subject of chasing yellows I just had a run on the London to Brighton Line with a couple of Class 33s, I don't think I have ever seen so much Ai in such a short mileage scenario, 68 in total and only 3 of them were static, 1hr 10mins to do 22m Kudos to the creator for routing that lot without a collision.
A way to guard against any scenarios going missing in the future is to unpack the archive directly into the folder it's in. Dragging the Scenarios folder out allows for updates related to everything else in the AP but your Scenarios folder then takes precedence over their own. As a result, you don't lose scenarios. An example is the Class 33 DLC. It shows a scenario called Double Dutch in the manual. But it's not included. Luckily, I found a copy from someone, but I should not have to go hunting that down. It should still be included. (We'll ignore it's not on PDL like the others, and Toothpaste Railtour is NOT in the manual - a likely replacement for the GWML scenario I brought up.)
Thanks for the replies, all. I have tried that, restarting TS, rebooting and restarting, And no luck. It’s actual 8 that are there, not 7 as I misremembered before. Did 9&10 come with the route, or with an AP EP? How do I get them back: verify integrity of the route? Can you select on one route to verify integrity, or does it do everything by default?
9&10 came with the Chatham - Dover - Ramsgate route. I would suggest :- Go into Steam / Right Click / Properties / DLC and untick Chatham - Dover. Wait about 30 secs and re-tick. Hopefully that should give you a fresh install . You could also as an added option use Win Explorer and delete Route 00000101-0000-0000-0000-000000002022 from your Railworks folder, and then do option 1. This worked for me when I had similar problems with another route. Just be aware this will also delete any Workshop / AP EP / 3rd party etc. scenarios, so might be worth checking beforehand, or as Cyclone says extract the scenario folder from the Ap first and copy it to a safe place to ensure you have a backup copy. Hope this helps Good Luck.
Also, open the Scenarios folder and go through them to try finding the missing ones. A quick look at ScenarioProperties.bin is the key here to see what the title is under "DisplayName". Also check the scenario type below the StartLocation group and above the date and duration. If there and they still don't appear in the menu, then you may be able to find it through the Editor interface. I just learned this is the only way to currently play "Hauling the Harvest Grain" in its original form on Marias Pass. If he has Workshop scenarios, the Scenarios folder already exists. Therefore, backing that up would automatically back up the Workshop scenarios and not the game scenarios unless you intentionally also extract them. As I noted, it's not a bad idea to go looking through them, either zipped or in the folder (from the folder, you can open straight into Notepad, while you can't from the archive in my experience).
I tried unticking to uninstall, and reticking to reinstall the route, but no change. The folder of the reinstall is exactly the same size as that of the backup I made before trying this. There are fifteen folders in the scenarios folder, but I only have the eight in Careers (plus one Railfans one in careers and two in Standard). Cyclone, thanks for the advice: I’ve never opened a bin file before, but how do I do it, what program do I use? I can’t seem to find a file with the exact name you mention either:
Use TS Tools to open a bin file Files > Open TS2022 file When you edit the file TS Tools creates a backup with the same name and .bak at the end
In addition to this, you can use Windows to set BIN files to be opened with TS-Tools automatically. I have it so that double-clicking a BIN file opens TS-Tools. I can wind up with multiple instances of TS-Tools as a result. You can see that I have ScenarioProperties on Firefox for some reason. I could set this one to Notepad. Now, you might ask, why can't Scenario.bin go directly to Notepad? Well... That's why. Set it up in TS-Tools and it gets this: Much better. Also, when you save any changes to a BIN file (like a train configuration file), a backup is made much like scenario edits using TS-Tools. If it doesn't work, delete the file and get rid of the BAK extension to try again. You may have multiple files numbering up as you save them, you may have messed up the third edit and want to go back to the one before that edit, so choose the correct backup and continue from there.
Most of the time when I'm just editing a loco or coach bin file I use notepad. Quicker than TS Tools if you know what you are doing
Notepad is easier for find and replace, and such, too. But TS-Tools saves directly to the BIN. Notepad you have to convert out.
After installing the AP Signal EP this morning, I thought I’d have a go at the London to Brighton League Cup Special scenario. I had cloned it and substituted an AP 205 for the default 377(?), but strangely I noticed no yellows, just greens from the beginning. Then I went back to the original scenario with the 377 and ran that, and it had all the yellows. Wonder why cloning and changing train would affect the signalling?
When I'm just changing a few lines it is so much easier in Notepad - and the conversion is simple with Serz.
You get Yellows because you are following something and the 205 is a lot slower than the 377 in front
Assigning "Serz.exe" to the file types ".bin" and ".xml" makes life a lot easier... Just double clicks needed.
The first Class 158 scenario on the new Huddersfield line has plenty of yellows towards the end of the journey to keep you your toes!
Coincidentally, the alerter doesn't always work in that train either, in my experience. As in, I press it, and I get an emergency brake anyway even after multiple presses. I find I have to use the HUD to respond to it if it's not in my camera view. Not sure if that's only me, but that seems buggy to me.
This one is good IIRC you are following a stopper service! https://alanthomsonsim.com/downloads/rs-90019-90039-6m76-2146-mossend-wembley-yard/ & This had you stopped at a few signals too, a short but fun run in an 86 https://alanthomsonsim.com/downloads/fgn-0z90-crewe-bas-hall-s-s-m-northampton/
Thanks, Paul. Looking at the requirements, I might just have the bulk of stuff for the second one, and I presume I can change the ATS 90s in the first?
Have now done the first one earlier this morning thanks for the recommendations, will do the second one later tonight.
I read somewhere the 158 is like the AP version and you have to wait for the AWS Horn to sound before cancelling it. Doing it as the Sunflower changes can be too early
Look at my video where I show it (forget exactly where ATM, maybe I can find a point). I press it multiple times, I tag it in the HUD, and it seems to not work at one or two points. There are a couple of instances where I actually didn't show on video where it also triggered and I just redid the section. Maybe I did not do something properly, but I've never had issues with any other AWS button, just the one. Mysterious. BTW, notice emergency brakes are not penalties in the Career scenarios. It's because even DTG scenario makers had issues with them. Wheel slip isn't a penalty either.
Indeed you are correct the way AP AWS work on the 158,156,150 is you need to wait for AWS horn to sound then HOLD Q down and release to reset like a driver would do IRL rather than just tap.
Thanks for this Paul i played the first one as well after Reef told me about it and a fantastic sceanrio it was as well
He does indeed as soon as I see a scenario by him on ATS you can gurantee it is a good one he done the class 87 scenarios for AP pack and all of them fantastic
Another one for the list, included with the AP 150/1 pack: Driving ECS behind a service train, you are going from yellow to yellow to sometimes red, generally trundling along at 20-25 mph.
Ooh, I must play that at some point. Have to do a stock check. EDIT: Dangit, it uses a Pendo. Going to keep in mind to sub one of the two other versions I have for that one.
I also have both the MJW one and another one on UKTS, item 40118 (Class 390 Pendolino Virgin Trains Pack). I will just sub in one of those since I know already it's not the driver train (clearly the 150/1 is). The same user also has a 221 with Virgin on it, and of course Just Trains has a 221 pack as well. I might have another sub to make as well; I don't recall if the VGA wagons are in my Just Trains collection, or bundled with something else I picked up (I think they are). If they are, then a Pendo sub is all I need.
I’m struggling to remember if I even saw a Pendo on that scenario (assuming we’re talking about the Class 150 one): just a 90, more 150s. It’s obviously not crucial.
