The issue with saved games is a long-standing problem with TSW and TSW2. What I do in long scenarios which I need to take a break from running it, use the pause feature, i.e. esc on a PC. This does not have the issues that save game does and, as long as your computer does not "go to sleep", you can leave it in pause for as long as you desire then return to where you were.

Savegame doesn't save the status of the signals, so when the game is reloaded it tries to "rebuild" the signal state from where the trains are on track. That can mean signal collisions and so on. It's a known issue, but not one that we've seen any work on

It really is very random. I recently started a service on SPG from Rockland to Cumberland with the SD70Ace and about 50 coal wagons. I got as far as the Summit and, as usual, life called and I had to save. I couldn't get back to it for about 48 hours, but it picked right up where I left off and I completed the service without a problem.
Yet I have had problems on other routes where the save function messes up signals and AI patterns and sometimes leaves the HUD broken.

Saves are less likely to screw things up on relatively simple A-B routes with few signals like SPG. But a complex networked route like Brighton? Forget it.

Please create a decent bug report in the Technical Reports section of this forum. The more bug reports on the save function, the more htere is a slight chance DTG will do anything about it.

I just want to note that I have never experienced a problem of any kind resuming a saved activity. Surely I'm not alone in this?

On some of the simple routes (HRR or LGV for example) it is fine for me too. However on other busier routes like LBN it is terrible. Maybe 50% chance I'll get a red signal with lots of trains stuck permanently in front of me.

There used to be another issue that the game objectives just disappear after loading. This one seems to be fixed though.

DTG have admitted several times they are aware of the problem but have stopped short of saying when it's likely to get programmer time or whether it's even feasible to fix without ripping the core programme apart.

Out of curiosity, do you have WSR? If so, can you try saving a service about 20 minutes in, loading it, and trying to complete it?
Asking because WSR seemed to be the worst for resuming a save because it's a single track.
