    This probably isn't a bug but find the maximum draw distance for the track very short. I understand they need to limit things for performance reasons but I have a beefy PC and everything set to max. See screenshots. The sleepers load in sections just in front of the loco and really ruins the realism for me, and at points, it's worse. FPS are good throughout and isn't an issue.

    I agree this is something that "jumps" right into your eyes. Hope they will do something about it in future updates. :)

    You can change this in the engine.ini add this and the popping sleepers are gone:

    [/script/engine.renderersettings]
    r.ViewDistanceScale=4

    The TSW standard is around 2 or so, try if you happy with 3 ... Less popping and good fps.
    View distance at and above 4 gives a fps drop and is only recommended at high end PC.
    I tried it up to value 32 and I am now at 20.

    With view distance at 20 I have around 50-70 fps on CSX and 40-50fps at GWE playing at 3440x1440 max settings on a i7-4790k@4,4ghz with a GTX1080.

    Is this still doable? It looks like they may have changed the location to GameUserSettings.ini

    [/script/engine.renderersettings]
    r.ViewDistanceScale=4

    You just need to add this to the bottom of the engine.ini file. You're not changing any of the existing content within.

    Where do I find this file to edit it? I can't find it within the steam folder or in program files.

    Thanks, never thought to look there. It opens in notepad and I don't see what's in the screen shot above. Should I be using another program?

    Is there a method similar to this to boost the game volume so I don't have to turn my speakers up to 85% every time I play then close the game after a couple hours and blast my eardrums out because I forget I turned them up.

    brandonmc205: yes in the GameUserSettings.ini

    \My Games\TS2Prototype\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\GameUserSettings.ini

    Good values are:

    MasterSoundVolume=3.500000
    MusicSoundVolume=1.500000
    SFXSoundVolume=3.500000
    AmbienceSoundVolume=2.500000
    DialogueSoundVolume=1.500000
    ExternalAlertVolume=1.500000
    MenuSFXVolume=1.000000

    I'm sorry for being dense, but how do I edit the code? Or is it a case of copy and paste at the bottom? This is what mine looks like:

    I'm an idiot. Totally missed that!

    I've done it now and makes a huge difference! I have mine set to 10 and doesn't make any noticeable difference to speed and smoothness!
    Thanks again!

    Well I haven't found a solution for the sleeper chairs but for anyone looking for a shadow tweak or two you could try using these- I chucked them in to the Engine file in the windowsnoeditor folder and the shadows are looking very smart indeed now.. usual caveats apply- on older machines you'll probably kill your frames so please do take that as the health warning. Ive got mine locked at 30fps which is sufficient for me.
    I havent got any programming training or knowledge so if anyone has any better ideas please let me know.

    [/script/engine.renderersettings]
    r.ViewDistanceScale=20
    r.ForceLOD=-1
    r.LensFlareQuality=2
    r.LightFunctionQuality=2
    r.Shadow.DistanceScale=2
    r.AllowLandscapeShadows=1

    Lens glare anyone? The effect goes through windows incorrectly so its only really good for dcreenshots etc..
    r.LensFlareQuality=3
    r.LightShaftQuality=1
    r.LightShaftBlurPasses=2

    OK- after much experimentation this afternoon, 2 steps forward one step back much of it, Ive finally settled on the following- I hope its useful to some of you :)

    [/script/engine.renderersettings]
    r.ViewDistanceScale=10
    r.LightFunctionQuality=3
    r.Shadow.DistanceScale=3
    r.AllowLandscapeShadows=1
    r.DefaultFeature.MotionBlur=0
    r.DefaultFeature.Bloom=0

    Is it somehow possible to increase the level of detail of the scenery?
    Looks currently like this:
    20180528165356_1.jpg 20180528165400_1.jpg
    Really bothers me especially because West Somerset is a scenery rich map

    It might be- this is my reference source for the shadow stuff. There's no short cut Im afraid, I had to go through reading the ones that looked likely then trying them out. Google is your friend for this..
    http://digilander.libero.it/ZioYuri78/

    In the course of my reading Ive come across lots of interesting stuff about unreal engine. It would be quite good fun to develop with it from what Ive seen, but then Im not a dev ;)

    Having noticed that DTG post some pretty nice looking screenshots in all their promos and that I was unable to get images that were close to there's, even with Ultra set in the option settings and a 200% screen percentage. So I got to tweaking and noticed that you can evoke a kind of 'Ultra' ultra setting.

    Go to \My Games\TS2Prototype\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor and open "GameUserSettings".

    Scroll to the very bottom to "Scalability Groups".

    The '=' number for each is set via the options menu in TSW. ie A setting of Ultra gives a =3 next to each item.

    You can manually change the 3's to a maximum of 4 for all but the sg.FoliageQuality which always defaults to =3.

    Mine looks like this:

    [ScalabilityGroups]
    sg.ViewDistanceQuality=4
    sg.AntiAliasingQuality=4
    sg.ShadowQuality=4
    sg.PostProcessQuality=4
    sg.TextureQuality=4
    sg.EffectsQuality=4
    sg.FoliageQuality=3
    sg.ResolutionQuality=200.000000

    It noticeably improves the look of everything on screen with not too much of a cost in FPS on a higher end PC.

    Keep in mind that if you go into your options whilst in game and change ANY of the settings these will all go back to their defaults and will need to be rechanged.

    Found that helpful, thanks sunscreen. I've copied your settings and am fiddling myself. Haven't noticed a drop in performance yet.
    Thought I'd be massively disappointed with WSR DLC but I really like it.

    Wow, thanks for posting this Steve, this game keeps getting better and better. I think they must have optimised for high end machines as I've applied your settings, again, no drop in performance. Visually, seriously impressive!

    In that sense, would you consider a GTX1060 3gb with i5-7400@3.00ghz a high end PC?

    Can't seem to figure it out yet... So in the folder WindowsNoEditor and the file Engine you just add at the bottom

    [/script/engine.renderersettings]
    r.ViewDistanceScale=4

    It opens in Notepad indeed. Just save it and it should be implemented? Going to check now.

    Beware that r.MaterialQualityLevel=0 kills 3D ballast and also may have other side-effects.

    Yes I do, I tried it before you knew about it and well aware how it works in UE rendering pipeline :P (not aware how DTG uses it though) Adding grass is just a weird positive side-effect, while decreasing ballast quality is the negative one. To each their own, one may prefer more grass and worse ballast, but throwing out your settings as universal and best, without warning about side-effects is not a good idea. Same goes for audio tweaks, which are thrown around as universal solution without mentioning its drawbacks.

    Of course, everyone has to find the right setting, to match the hardware and the personal taste.

    Here Ian1991 was asked for other attitudes, only this I have answered. Any change can be easily undone and does not destroy the computer or the game.

    And the changes mentioned fit me very well.

    I've just bought some of new UK DLC and have gone back to edit the game and notice some of the parameters have changed.
    What are people's latest settings these days?

    Is this still compatible with TSW 2? Because for some reason it's not working for me. Is this right???

    While overall draw distance can be greatly improved with .ini commands, the "creeping sleepers" ultimately are a result of a short shadow draw distance which to the best of my knowledge cannot be adjusted that way. Same with mid-distance trees: the trees themselves can be made to appear a long way off, but the shadows that make them look 3D only pop in when they're distractingly close.

    Unless someone has found a fix for this I don't know about?

    that's on TSW not TSW2. I agree that it isn't perfect in TSW2 but its defiantly an improvement to TSW

    I agree with you that it's not perfect in TSW2. Hopefully they will do something about it in future updates.
