Please don’t turn this into a political post so it gets locked, I’m not sharing it to be so. I just saw this and wanted to admire and recognise the brave citizens protecting their country however they can.

This shows them cutting rail to make tank barricades.

I’m only posting here as it loosely relates to rail. We dont need to talk about what’s right or wrong with what’s happening. There’s other places but respect to Ukraine and hope it ends positively for them very soon.

If you watched the most recent Virtual Railfan "Grab Bag", at the 6:00 mark, you can see how the US is helping.

An impressive load of firepower, but those Abrams aren't headed for Ukraine. First, the Ukrainians couldn't really use US (or British or German) tanks without extensive training, and they use ammo incompatible with what Ukraine has (what Ukraine needs, and apparently is getting, is Soviet-built tanks provided by former East Bloc NATO countries like Poland). Second: those are factory-fresh paint jobs without even unit markings: that's a load of new or refurbed tanks being shipped from the factory.

Both military and refugee transport. The military train will have a DR BR120 M62 or the 2M62 twin section version. 25kv areas VL80 VL82 if needed to run towards a 3kv section

Almost every bordering country has announced free travel for Ukrainians on national rail routes, most cities have suspended fares on buses and trams too. It is frightening and uncertain in our train stations in Poland right now, people arrive and have no idea where they are going, but lots of support has come from citizens and I think we will manage to offer a good welcome. If people want to offer help, I would suggest the Ukrainian Red Cross need help most urgently right now.

I’ve seen this morning the sheer volume that system has to cope with. All rather concerning with how it’s panning out.

So Germany/Deutschland is rebuilding their military. What's your thought on that?
