Ran a service that came into Penzance then after unloading all passengers it required me to come out of Penzance station and go to the Sea Sidings just outside. What is the correct procedure here in a real situation? Would the driver reverse to the siding or in fact change ends first? Thanks
I've never seen a train reverse other than in sidings or depot (and usually then with a spotter or marshal in contact with the driver)
I don't think distance is what matters in this case. More a point that you have no visibility around the train other than forwards from whatever cab you're facing, so whilst it may not damage the train to go 150 yards in the other direction you can't see anything which may be putting itself in harms way by getting in YOUR way...
I believe you would have to change ends of a train even if it's a short distance, as it'll be harder to reverse because of poor visibility
Yes you would change ends in real life BUT one of the NTP scenarios "Rescue Run" keeps you at the wrong end , well it has me in reversing all the way to the broken down loco at the station. You also end up loosing huge amounts of time if you try to.
I've seen Loco's reverse hundreds of times in the past but these days drivers will usually swap ends when doing shunting manoeuvres. Units I've never seen reverse the driver has always changed cabs which is what I do.
