I have problems with running TS2022 on my brand new machine. I installed the game, along with a small number of purchased DLCs, including Koblitser Berg and Munich - Hanover. However, I get freezes when I open a world where the audio continues. Sometimes when opening it, but sometimes just a full black screen. I've tried a lot, such as reinstalling with erasing the contents of the / railworks directory, repairing Windows (integrity check), updating all drivers, but I keep getting crashes. The folder is loaded a few times, but often not at all. The specifications are: Windows 11 Asus Prime Z 690-P4 motherboard 2x16 GB RAM (Crucial Ballistix DDR4-3600) Samsung SSD 2 TB M.2. Intel Core i5 12600 Onboard video card. In a support ticket with DoveTail games, the answer was that a Integrated graphics solutions are not supported. Which is special, because I've never had problems with various onboard GPUs before. Now i have plans to buy a videocard: ASUS GT1030-SL-2G-BRK Now i'm wondering if the Intel Core i5 12600 is not a problem to run TS2022 in combination with a videocard. Anybody experiences about this?
Onboard graphics are definitely not for gaming - this is an office machine. Upgrade it as you planned with a decent GFX card.
You will definitely will have to get a dedicated graphics card, and disable the onboard one, everything else listed looks good.
The minimum GPU spec for TS 2022 is a GTX 750 Ti. Here's how that compares to what you've got: https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-750-Ti-vs-Intel-UHD-Graphics-770/2187vsm1701638 And, importantly, here's how it compares to the nearly 5 year old 1030 you're looking at: https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-750-Ti-vs-Nvidia-GT-1030/2187vsm283726 The recommended minimum is a GTX 970 / RX 480, so that's a better ballpark to start with, but those are still pretty old and support will be iffy. My suggestion is to check your budget against what's available and use userbenchmark.com to check performance. And also avoid the new AMD 6500-XT like the plague. Don't know where you are, but looking at my local Microcenter's inventory, I could right now pick up a GTX 1650, which is slightly below the 970's performance but well above the 750, for $219. You could do much worse.
Thanks for the responses thus far. I'm going to consider purchasing the chosen video card, and see how far I get. The price of video cards is currently skyrocketing due to the scarcity of parts. I do find it strange that I have the game working on two other PCs with an older motherboard, without any problems. When I want to play the game on the PC I mentioned, after the splash screen I get a black screen, with only sound (from the splash screen) and a mouse that I can move. On other PCs this doesn't happen, and I can just play the game. Can anyone explain this?
As to why the game works on the older PCs, that depends on their specs. Current problem sounds like a GPU driver issue. Try fiddling with the settings in the driver UI. You can also try reverting to an older version just to check. You are using brand new Windows version + brand new processor + brand new integrated graphics, which is a triple crapshoot. And Intel's integrated graphics are traditionally awful anyway. Yeah, the GPU market has been terrible, but it seems to be very slowly correcting now. I'll still suggest not wasting your money on an old graphics card that doesn't quite match the minimum anyway.
