Currently the only DTG DLC on the roadmap is Spirit Of Steam. I can't remember the last time there was just 1 pending route. I can't see anything on this weeks stream which looks like a route announcement so when do we think something will be admitted as being worked on and what do we think it will be? And more importantly when so we think it will be released? Before or after SoS? Given that SoS still seems a few weeks away are we really not going to get anything new until mid to late April? My money is on a German route and something set in or around Berlin, but I might be barking up the wrong tree.
Who knows, they might be busy fixing bugs On a serious note, I agree. Something German is coming, for sure.
I hope they are working on other stuff other that spirit of steam. I want WCML, ECML, Liverpool to Manchester, A NYC Subway route (7 train), Merseyrail and so much more. I’m hoping this year we’ll see at least something from this list, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
I'm pretty sure SoS is just the UK route that has been announced. There is hopefully something else going on otherwise they are winding down! I think the change in the roadmap was to mask the fact that things are going to slow down. Perhaps they are slowing up the new stuff so QA can spend time clearing the backlog of preservation crew items, they can't do both simultaneously.
I was hoping the last couple roadmaps for new announcements, but meh... With the new approach of DTG to the roadmap and previous releases: expect the next route to be a German one, releasing May/June. So maybe at the end of April, it will be added to the "roadmap", i.e. we see the first articles and screenshots shortly before it releases. It will likely be including steam. But there will be no more "early" announcements of routes like we had before, that is long gone
I'd like to see another French route (or another country outside the big 3) as DTG developed TVM, KVB VACMA and then Crocodile all for LGV and a bit of SEHS. Preferably I wouldn't want a metro route. Something using a TER train/service possibly.
Wouldn’t be surprised if we see 1 or 2 announcements before the reveal of the summer update. Maybe just one UK or German route. I don’t have much interest in German routes, I’d mostly be interested in a route featuring a new ICE. UK routes, I’d be happy to see ScotRail revisited. The Ayrshire Coast Line is high up on my wanted list. Perhaps a London Overground route would be nice as well. But really I personally don’t care if no route is released before Spirit of Steam. I probably won’t buy it. Just let me play London Commuter properly, and that’ll make me happier than any German release could.
It's probably going to be german route or possibly a loco dlc as we haven't had one of those in a while. For german routes I think it will probably be a high-speed route just because we haven't had one in over a year.
The Future 1. The Bad Scenario (I hope none of this happens, DTG please don’t do this. This is also intended to make the reader laugh… or cry.): We get a third German route set in or near the Dresden/Riesa/Chemnitz region in a row. Probably a straight mainline with the usual Intercity, S-Bahn and Regional services, facilitated through complicated layers. It includes solely reused locos as well as the existing DoSto cabs and wagons. After NEC Boston and Harlem, we get another American passenger route set in the northeast of the United States, probably in or near New York. It has signalling issues upon release, and lacks the urban US feeling. We get no new British route until winter because DTG is busy first developing, then releasing and fixing Spirit of Steam. Small inaccuracies in the route anger dedicated fans, and the locos have difficulties running on Last Gen consoles, resulting in a reduced timetable, simplified graphical effects and frequent game crashes. 2. The Good Scenario (Gods of Railsim, please make this happen!): We get a unique German route set in a previously unexplored region (and maybe even a different era!). It includes either a new ICE train and has a high-speed focus or embraces the regional express lifestyle by exploring the German countryside. Additional possibilities include an updated version of the IC with cab and restaurant cars or new IC2 DoSto wagons and cab cars. A new American passenger route arrives. It’s set in either the southeastern or western parts of the United States and provides players with a sunny and scenic driving experience. Additionally, a new freight route is announced in the summer. The launch of Spirit of Steam in spring goes well. It has a few small issues, but nothing major. Players are positively surprised by the amazing sounds and particle effects as well as the detailed, accurate scenery. Due to the positive reaction to Cathcart Circle, we venture to Scotland later in the year for the next British route. It focuses on regional & intercity travel and includes appropriate trains, which can layer onto Cathcart Circle to populate Glasgow Central.
If Spirit of Steam doesn't include a German steam route as well as an American steam route, it'd be quite a dissapointment. But unfortunately the roadmap has become less useful, and I can't believe this is all DTG is working on. They're hiding stuff... just like they did prior to the roadmap, unfortunately...
Well, there are two main options left around Dresden Either to Děčín, which would probably mean Vectron or Br 180/ČD 371/372 introduction or to Görlitz/Zittau which would need Desiro to come into the game (based on the era it could either be just Desiros or Desiros + return of 612s). So Dresden could still be done interestingly, but yeah, probably worth sidelining it for a couple of German releases.
It all depends on whether or not Spirit of Steam is one route, two routes or three routes and whether DTG were confident enough to develop all the steam routes in quick succession. I think we’ll find out during the Spirit of Steam live stream later this week. I would think a US steam route is highly likely. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if a Merseyrail route was announced soon for after the steam shenanigans. It can use a remodelled existing train after all.
Please Oh Please, not another bright red modern German route with blue cement trucks and yellow diggers! At least make it vintage diesel or steam.
Option 2 would be nice but I suspect Option 1. As I just remarked in the SOS thread, I have a feeling everything else has paused in order to get Scousy Steam out and get it right, as otherwise Paul Jackson will be sending for the hangman if it turns into a mess.
I'd automatically buy any dlc that had more moving ambient scenery and people moving about in places outside stations. Harlem is like the set of 28 days later from I've seen. Deserted
Agree with Chieflongshin. As graphics become more realistic, so the dead world becomes more noticeable.
I dont think the community wants JUST freight anymore after the amount of Freight only routes that have been released. And what was wrong with the Harlem Line? The signalling for once isnt a mess but it is complicated in its own way
I can’t really see what parts of my message you quoted, they’re just separate letters. But I’ll try to answer anyways. The only time I mentioned freight in my entire message was actually in the US part of the good scenario. I’m not a freight player myself, but I figured it would make sense to mention it since “The good scenario” is intended to make all players happy, including those who focus solely on freight. Announcing a freight route in late summer would probably lead to a release in fall or winter, which would be more than a 6 month gap to Sherman Hill. So there would definitely be a big gap after the high amount of freight routes we’re getting right now, which would be used to focus on passenger routes. I didn’t mention Harlem Line issues/concerns at all. In fact, I’m very intrigued by it and might buy it once it’s on sale! The main complaints regarding US routes set in the northeast, especially around New York, are either bugged or confusing signalling and lack of a true “Big Apple” feel (although the latter has been somewhat improved on with Harlem). So I figured a bad scenario/outcome would be a lack of improvement in these critical areas with the next route release. Remember, this is supposed to be a somewhat humorous worst case scenario, just to give people something to laugh. I suspect the true outcome we’ll get in the coming months will be a mix between the two scenarios, simply because developers have limited time and resources. We also have to take into account the possibility of a big summer release like Rush Hour, but it’s impossible to speculate about this since no info whatsoever has been announced yet. It was very interesting to think about these two possible outcomes and write them down. If I don’t forget, I might come back to this comment at the end of the year and compare it to what really happened. Who knows, maybe I predicted the next big surprise!
How about a German steam route that is International that means pre 1964-1966 Duisburg-Oberhausen-Arnhem Utrecht Railway. That route requires German steam locomotives to have ATB EG Emmerich Am Rhein to Arnhem where you drop the German steam locomotive DB BR 011 023 041 065 052 010s for a Dutch electric locomotive NS 1100 NS1200 for the final section being Utrecht Arnhem. DB BR 011 023 041 065 052 010 West German steam locomotives end up changing selected German routes is that you are able to run Plandampf Trips on them.
Just expect to be disappointed then you cant be caught offguard! Spirit of steam is already confirmed to only be 1 UK route and 2 steam loco's as a first iteration. Hopefully when the technology is fully in the game and working well it will be easier to then develop steam for the other country routes.
April 5th should be the next roadmap. I believe they said it would be the first Tuesday of each month going forward.
When something went on the roadmap, the children cried when it didn't release the next week. They're probably keeping things under wraps, therefore, until it's basically done. I don't know where people have got the idea Spirit of Steam is going to be more than 1 route from.
Probably due to the non-descriptive "Spirit of Steam" title of the DLC (descriptive of the route itself, I mean), and that the batch of Summer DLC hasn't been announced yet. Therefore, hopeful thinking that "Spirit of Steam" will be a 3-route pack for the Summer. At least, that's my guess (I don't believe in this rumor/meme/hopeful thinking).
From the experience of last year's " Rush Hour. " If SOS is to be the major Summer - Fall release, it doesn't make much sense to confine it to just one third of the market.
I expect that the following will be available in the next couple of months. Liverpool to Crewe. SoS Horseshoe Curve. LMS jubilee class loco. 8F loco and wagons. DB BR 420.
As much as I'm looking forward to the steam experience, it would be nice for the UK fans to know what is in the pipeline for the next UK route...i'm sure that there are many that crave to know what the next UK modern-ish route will be. Personally I'm hoping for a major one e.g WCML/GEML etc etc ... I'm sure routes of that ilk would make DTG a lot of money.
Matt specifically stated on a stream a while back that SoS ISNT the summer update. I think it was on one of the PC roadmap streams where he also stated the PC updates from would be conplet d prior to the yet to be announced summer updates.
Matt said once on a stream spirit of steam has nothing to do with their "big summer release". I can immagine we get some loco addons in addition to steam release (2-3), to enhance the experience. But i cant immagine a 3 route dlc steam summer special, because tsw has also fans who like modern only. So the silence from dtg looks very suspicious to me, i personally hope for another german route with new rolling stock and a modern uk route as first release from just trains.
I think it'd be a bit foolish to go for a 3 new route summer release of anything - Rush Hour was a bit of a mare. Maybe 2 routes and a remaster/backdated (or modernised) version of an existing one?
What's the possibility that UK Liverpool route might be dtg 1st route with a price increase?Just to test what players are willing to spend for steam routes.Don't forget DTG did play musical chairs with there RUSH HOUR ROUTES prices.
Did they? They all released for £24.99, ie normal route price; the only difference was you could buy all 3 of them for like £36.99 or however much it was.
I don’t know where people get the idea it will just be one route. Someone said it had been confirmed to be one route but I’ve not seen or heard that myself. I see it as the route we know about is the first release of Spirit of Steam and then others will follow on from that. There wouldn’t be a banner name for just one route. Crewe to Liverpool in 1958 doesn’t conjure up thoughts of the spirit of steam by itself. US steam fans would be left scratching their heads if Spirit of Steam referred only to one route and so would I. I’m not expecting a simultaneous release but the term Spirit of Steam must relate to more than one route in the north of England.
Me neither. My personal bet is on the UK route this year, american and german next year and the following year, or sooner, if the development process can be sped up. Maybe that's way Spirit of Steam got the same "themed" name that Rush Hour got, but also isn't the summer release? Either way, if the UK route is out, it's just a matter of time before we will see the other countries. I secretly hope for Rivet to jump on it, and give us a really old narrow gauge alps steam route, if they can step up their mountain scenery a bit.
Perhaps they mean 'Spirit of Steam' as in the country where it was first developed for inter-city passenger routes. I don't see any evidence it would be more than one route. Surely if there was then Matt would have hinted at it when he did that last steam stream no? This is the first steam route for DTG so it is new to them. Look at all the bugs that happened with Rush Hour and some are still outstanding. Those 3 routes were done with existing code which they are supposed to be comfortable. And you seriously think that DTG can develop new code, mechanics for three steam routes this summer? DTG can't get the preserved routes out that have been waiting for months I don't see them able to complete 3 routes for steam so soon given their track record. imo they will be releasing one steam route, Crewe - Liverpool. DTG will play it safe and hope they get it right. Releasing 3 routes would be a disaster imo. There is a steam stream coming up soon yeah? So maybe we will find out.
