I think we have a good chance. We are certain to make it out of the group with USA, Scotland/Wales/Ukraine and Iran in our group. Ideally, we will see france, spain, brazil, Argentina (sorry messi fans) portugal (sorry cr7 fans) and germany get dumped out early.

England winning the World Cup . It’s a quote from a song called ‘footballs coming home’

"Football: an athletic contest in which two teams of eleven men kick a ball for 90 minutes, and then the Germans win."

It's a quote from a song called 'Three Lions". And for reference was released to coincide with Euro 96! Even then it was 'thirty years of hurt never stopped me dreaming', doesn't age well '56 years of hurt'!
As for England's current chances, just after the devil's ice skates past....

The England Football Team in the World Cup has a lot or parallels with the release of a new DLC for TSW2 by DTG. Everyone gets excited during the build up and hopes this will be the one. But ultimately they will make a lot of errors and we'll all be disappointed.

We'll still look forward to the next one though.

If I remember correctly, the last time they were drawn in the same pool of a major tournament, Wales were so confident of qualifying that we let England beat us so they could qualify too...

Well, we won’t get beat by Italy in the final, that’s for sure.

I feel sorry for England fans - you're good enough to be among the final 8 with consistency but never good enough to win the thing. I am very grateful for one thing though - as a Balkan football fan who spent 2018 in Zagreb, they gave me one of the best sporting nights of my life:)

As a semi-proud Welshman I have a theory on this.
When the Irish come to town they drink you dry, sing for the hills and possibly urinate in the bus station
When the English come to town they break your town, leave it a mess and possibly end up in prison.
The dynamic is a bit different and yes it may be a "minority" but it's a vocal (and damaging) enough one to be heard above the masses of well behaved and lovely fans that clubs have nowadays

The violence and alcoholism is part of it (and no, not every country has this - it is pretty specifically England fans), but I think it's also the incredible over confidence. Not many countries produce headlines like The Sun's EASY, there tends to be more level headed assessment elsewhere.

I already mentioned the last World Cup, where we saw pundits openly discussing how England should play against France before they played their semi, as though having to play Croatia was just a formality beneath them. We know how that turned out, and setting yourselves up to fail like that is really just inviting schadenfreude.

It's funny for everyone else (especially if like me you live there but come from elsewhere originally)

This is also why England were the most likeable team at the last Euros - no arrogance to them, quite the opposite, and much more of a see what happens and enjoy the ride vibe. Maybe cos they were mostly at home?

    It's not coming home. It's never coming home :) :) :)

Because Germany stunk so bad in the last WC, they will have to win the next three cups to make up for it :)

Yes, I scoffed at the curse in 2018. Most consistent NT, I thought. Not scoffing now so at least France will be turfed, which will be a bonus for everyone. So no three in a row either but it felt good saying it.

Best of luck, mate. This is going to be an interesting WC!
