As a Uk player I find myself enjoying some of the US freight routes. Without being sacrilegious most US locos we have bar the F7 and Gp38 all look similar to me.

I was wondering if anyone could share pictures to the following effect
    • Fits our current US routes
    • Passenger or freight
    • Not just a variation of one we have.

I'm curious what interesting rolling stock is over there which is totally different to what we have no end of varieties of now.

    Thank you.

Only suitable for Boston but I'd love to see an AEM7AC included even if technically they had been retired 2 years prior to when Boston is set.

I'm afraid I am with chieflongshin here and don't know much about the US stuff at all. I like this one a lot though. Is this the one mentioned on the information boards at the Horseshoe Curve visitor centre in the recently released DLC? Or, does it not run there?

Of course. I mean, really, what is with people and the Genesis these days. There ain't that many routes now that would benefit from them.

P42 might be a loco that has to wait a turn and THEN add services to multiple routes at once. Because now it would be 2 services on SPG (each with 1 stop only), 2 on HSC (2 stops), maybe some AI on NEC: BP, and I think that's it. But if we get a couple more routes like this, suddenly you could "make a bread out of crumbles! :D Definitely would love to see the loco (and Superliners), but it would be hard for it to come with a native route. That would possibly only be something like the Racetrack.

It also operates 2 services on OSD, with just 2 stops. Don’t really think that changes the argument too much, but the pedant in me wanted to point it out.

Another suitable trains for Boston-Providence is HSP-46 with Hyundai Rotem double decker carriages manufactured in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Second is Acela Express
    [IMG]
For a more detailed suggestion on how HSP-46 can arrive in the game check my suggestion of Rush Hour train pack it comes with a high-speed train to accompany it the Avelia Liberty unsuited for 2019.
    Acela Express

Sadly only usable with Clinchfield, or another vintage route: but indispensable on any vintage US route.

The problem with most Modern US locos, at least from the Freight side, are fairly similar in looks.

Take a look at GEs roster from the Widecab Dash 8s to the ET44. Very little has changed externally.

And EMD Spartan Cabs are the same too. Outside of the carbody, not much had changed on the SD and Geeps from the 60s till the late 80s, when the Triclops SD60Ms were developed.

As far as the P42DC is concerned, it is the mainstay of Amtraks fleet from the 90s till now, and should be a must in the future. Only thing it's only purpose right now is subbing into routes where it barely has any actual runs.

    -Peninsula Corridor (Coast Starlight)
    -Cane Creek (California Zephyr)
    -Sand Patch Grade (Capital Limited)
    -Horseshoe Curve (Pennsylvanian)
    -Boston Sprinter (Lake Shore Limited)

Seems like a lot of work for 1 locomotive, 2 cars (Viewliner Baggage and Superliner) plus the variations on the Superliner Cars
    -Transition Sleeper
    -Sleeper
    -Diner
    -Sightseer Lounge
    -Coach
    -Coach Baggage

Even more work for the Viewliner cars for the LSL

Boston sprinter lake shore limited because that goes to Worcester and then Albany New York.

I don't think they are, or they weren't when I was last that side of the pond. The P32AC-DMs usually run between Penn Station and Albany along the Hudson line so the New York Segment will be hauled by a P32 for that section but the rest including the Boston segment will be P42s

Metro North only rosters P32AC-DMs they do not own any P42s. Which I believe was what the original comment was about. Not Amtrak.

I spent a bit of time looking for a few different-looking ones not yet mentioned, but there is some variety to be had.

These first three are all Union Pacific locos, all a nice fit for Sherman Hill. Here's one of their most common, the SD70M
    [IMG]

SD60M (it has three windows, how cool is that!)

And how about a real beauty? Here's a gas turbine electric (GTEL).

Then we have a passenger locomotive on the Long Island Railroad, the lovely DE30AC.

And while these aren't in service yet (I think), I thought it would be good to mention the ALC-42, which will run Amtrak's long distance trains sometime soon.

I would've brought up more US locomotives that are somewhat unique as well, but I'll just follow the criteria of being relevant for the game's current routes.

ALC-42 In service since February 2022 on the Empire Builder Cascade Tunnel route. Game needs Avelia Liberty. Check my suggestion Rush Hour Train pack where it comes with HSP-46 with Hyundai Rotem double decker Cars

    The Avelia Liberty
    1) is not in service yet anywhere
    2) is still in prototype testing, making a survey trip impossible, and
    3) is ugly AF.

For our eyes, yes it's ugly. But it is aerodynamically beautiful i assume.

I mean, the SD60M would be a bit of a stretch for Sherman Hill depending on how "Modern" the route is set in. That fleet is currently mothballed around UP's system bar a few that got rebuilt.

The GTEL is the same thing, way out of era for Sherman Hill.

On a side note, Clinchfield outside of the GP7, has at least 3 other locos that could be "considered" different that what we have.

The GE U36C (Clinchfield didn't keep them though, later traded to SCL for SD45's)

    EMD SW7

    EMD NW2

But almost every other consideration for a freight loco would be too similar to one that we already have in game.

    Sand Patch Grade
    -SD40-3
    -SD70MAC/MACe (Possible)
    -SD80MAC
    -AC6000CW
    -ES44AH
    -ET44AH

    Cane Creek and Sherman Hill
    -GP15-1
    -GP40-2
    -GP60
    -SD70M (Possible)
    -AC6000CW/AC4460CW
    -ES44AC (C45ACCTE)
    -ET44AH (C45AH)
    -SD90/43MAC
    -SD70ACe-T4

    Clinchfield
    GP38
    SD45-2

    Horseshoe Curve
    -AC44C6M
    -SD40E
    -SD60E (Possible)
    -SD70ACU
    -SD70ACC

I just kinda assumed that some older locomotives would fit nicely on something like a 1960s timetable pack. I mean, when you look at the route, it doesn't exactly have any scenery that would look very out of place if there was a timetable pack claiming to be set in the 60s. It's Wyoming.

And of course, how could I have forgotten Clinchfield! It's a route begging for loco DLCs. The GP7 was the only one that came to mind for me, and you already mentioned that earlier in the thread. I also remembered the SW7, but it's "switcher" shape is similar to the MP15DC, which I worried wasn't a good fit for the thread. The SW1000R once existed in TSW y'know!

The U36C though, that's a great one to mention. Looks lovely, has charm, and [insert third compliment]! But we can't forget that technically, if you want to be really REALLY picky, you can remember the VERY early CSX Heavy Haul days when it was (not) in the game!

Anything that’s not a GM or latter day GE. We need some noisy, smoky, dirty Alcos in the game.

What about some of the NRE Genset locos?

3 engine shunters could be a significant novelty.

The AC6000s were all retired by the time of SPG, not to mention the later US routes. Or rather, they were downrated to AC4460s and for all practical purposes were/are identical to AC4400s. The same is true of the SD90MACs.

To work in any Alcos or Baldwins we would have to push back much farther in time than Clinchfield. The GTELs also were all retired by 1970.

I'd like to see the Amtrak Dash 8-32 BWH . Although they're largely absent from main line services these days, they could sub on any Amtrak route, especially on the West Coast. If DTG ever modeled the Coast Starlight, for example.

I'd love to see Tier 4 engines make an appearance on TSW2.
