I can hear the spirits calling to me, and what they want from me is; Steeeammm! :D
I can not wait to try this puppy out. It's been so long waiting for Steam to happen for TSW, but hopefully it'll be worth it in the end.

Wow, I thought this was going to be the "summer release"!

But I would question if you could say it was the middle of steam in UK... seeing as 10 years later diesel was very much coming in!

Again no Preorder discount for console users. I assume there won't be one upon launch either

That is not upto DTG it seems for the consoles, especially if you see the amount of sales.
On Steam they can do whatever they like.

Well it definitely feels like us Console users have been forgotten about when it comes to Preorder or launch discounts recently.

The wait will be over soon - this is arriving earlier than I expected ! Just last week I was saying I didn’t think SoS would arrive this year

The last time I was this excited for a TSW release was when TSW was initially announced. Already ordered. So stocked for this ;)! I can see I’m going to get no work done on the days that follow release lol.

TBH I thought the price would be almost double as high ...
Even though Steam is not for me (yet) the article made me want to know more

I am very excited about the new simulation experience and steam traction coming soon, but… with no (apparent) preorder discount and DTG’s track record, I might wait until feedback/reviews are posted here on the forums before I bite.

To be fair, I can count the number of launch discounts for console TSW releases on the fingers of erm… one finger. It’s just not something that they do and isn’t just on recent releases.

Looks like many of us were correct about a May release date. It looks very interesting and I will definitely be picking it up. It is also the standard route price, which is good news, even if there is no pre-order discount.
You're not missing anything this time. There is a pre-order on Steam but no discount.
Yes, they announced this many weeks ago with the reasoning that it gives more time to respond to urgent release issues with hotfixes before the office closes for the weekend.

    Cheers

No preorder discount and my reservations on how this will run on my "recommended spec" machine means I'll be waiting until release and early reviews on whether to purchase at full price or wait for discounts further along the road

I'm planning on picking this up on day one (depending on how the preview streams go). Generally love anything vintage and I'm very excited to learn about running a steam loco as I have little to no idea about it. Potential railtour scenarios (either by myself or preferably the talented people uploading content on Creator's Club) are also something I'm very excited about.

Jubilee in time for the jubilee. Exactly as I suspected . Looking forward. I’ve blown DTG out the last 4 round, suppose it’s time to get her a drink now.

Can’t wait to take the steam engines over the Northern Transpennine route or to see them struggle up the hill out of Victoria.

This is game day May 31 assuming it doesn't get delayed, but for as thrilled as many of us are about the first steam route, the real question is how many issues will it includes that could ruin the route. This is dtg 2nd chance to release something new and different and special. The only fear is will they bring it on or blow it as always.

I wasn’t particularly interested in steam but my interest is piqued, at least by the route. I might give it a go depending on preview streams and reports from early adopters (sorry early adopters but I have been one myself on several occasions so I reckon I’m entitled this time around).

No discount on Xbox yet but hopefully 10% Game Pass discount and I should have at least £10 of reward points by the end of the month. I’m not bothered about a pre-order discount as I don’t see the point in buying it before it s released.

Excuse me for duplicating my thoughts from the other thread:

I've pre-ordered as I'm really happy to see steam finally making its way to TSW.

I've got many reservations as previously expressed mostly around the amount of content - how busy the timetable will be, how local passenger and freight will be handled, if we'll see some loco DLC (which I really think is essential here, moreso than dining cars or anything else).

I'm hoping that this will (perhaps after the month-long QA-focused break) herald a push for more loco DLC (and more content generally) as the rate of releases seems to have slowed down dramatically since Rush Hour. Hoping we may see some additional third-party developers that specialise in steam as well throwing their hat in the ring to further increase the flow of new content.

One extra thing I'd really like to see - a new steam timetable for WSR so we can make use of these super engines in a different context (if anyone from DTG is watching - some demonstration freight would be good too!).

Find it remarkable that the main focus here is on vapor particles.

I'm more worried about the control via controller! If I imagine that I can't operate important valves with the keyboard and have to constantly wiggle the controller back and forth to operate something important, I'm just busy with it and don't get anything from the great ride. And the particles...

I find that very disadvantageous with the otherwise excellent BR-101, because it takes away my immersion. And I still know Steam from the MSTS. Back then with a keyboard and mouse. But with controllers? But ok, the main thing is that the vapor particles look great...

So I have real concerns about that. But well, everyone feels that differently and so you just have to fox your way into it. Still I'll grab it soon, I love Steam and Vintage, I just have to have this! Like that! And I hope that somehow and simply they did it well.

Until then, I remain in great and joyful expectation!

    Pre-ordered.
Congratulations all involved, having spent ~£900 on TS & TSW, this is the first time I've paid full price.
Looking forward to the third party DLCs.

I think the key is a quick way to switch between several views, one looking out the window, one looking at the window with some main gauges/controls in view and then another looking at all the controls.

I think switching the injectors and blower on and off and shovelling coal with the cursor will be easy enough as long as you can flick back to a good view of the line quickly.
Maybe use the left and right on the D-Pad perhaps.

Are the route previews starting already next week (with the sound stream and some teasers this Thursday)?

As for pre-order offer, I don't see any point of getting it, since I'll need to wait for the download until the release anyway and there are no discounts to encourage pre-ordering. There's no limited quantity, so there';s no fear of missing out. I need to see the previews first, some more screenshots, the launch stream and a few other videos by random players who already got it to make the decision of purchase, and then the earliest I'd be able to play with it would be on the weekend afterwards.

Two things in curious about with this route. 1)Will Crown street freight yard feature in this route since it was in service until the early 70s.
    2) How well have to team capture the (IMO) grimy but historic descent down to Lime street station? The cutting walls are grimy, brown, dirty and dark and it’ll probably be my favourite part of the route if done well so I have high hopes.

Hey, Jamie and JD! Wouldn’t be too bad if there WAS a preorder discount, but I figure that you expect us in the TSW community going wild preordering anyway. Caught you, didn’t I? Yes, I’ll preorder, but I think I’ll wait for a while. I’m a bit greedy too. You never know… Hope my old computer can take the DLC.

There is no reason to pre order anyways. A $3 discount isn't much of a discount to be honest

True enough. Anything that was associated with any significant number of coal-burning engines would be caked with soot. Heck, not just the trains; most places in Britain burned coal for power and heating. I remember London in 1970 was only just starting to clean off a few blackened buildings, and still in 1982 the glass train hall at Paddington was a dark, opaque cave roof.

It's amazing more people are preoccupied by a 10% discount then weather this route will be any good or not.Blimey?

    Question

Will steam trains be able to layer onto routes that have rail tours or is that not their thing ?

or does things like track gauge stop that ?

In most cases, rolling stock only layers into routes made after the said rolling stock: the layer has to be providd for when the route is made.

In a few cases updated routes have had layers back-fitted

If you can have 2 or more steam engines lash up how do you think dtg will implement multi loco control?Assuming it will even work.

I convinced myself that this would be the summer release, so I am pleasantly surprised by the release date. Hopefully it hasn't been a rushed release and bugs are at a minimum.

Makes me wonder what DTG have in store for the summer release now. Hopefully its a season ticket triple pack like we had last year.

I'm never interested in UK routes since TS1/TSC, i just simply don't know why. But i got one major exception for it's steam era. Truly can't wait for the upcoming release of TSW2 Spirit Of Steam!!!

On multiple roadmap streams, from the announcement onwards, they said that it wasn't.
