I think the salient part is "British Rail". Definitely not the middle of steam in the UK generally

I wonder if there will even be a summer release. DTG have recently said that they will be putting first party development on hold after Spirit of Steam to concentrate on fixing existing problems. With summer starting next month, there presumably won’t be any new routes or a season ticket. There may of course be a major update to the core with maybe a package deal of existing routes as with TSW2020.

What are the inconvenient recommendations ?

I buy it at full price to support the development of steam trains in TSW. But I hope the quality will be there. the DLC still the price of a complete game on PC.

To be fair to DTG, even last years "summer" release only finally came out in September/October :)

Why would you want another triple pack summer release when they still haven't got last year's working properly yet? That was a disaster. Going forward they should refresh the base game but with one new route included and two existing ones, like TSC.

It's very amusing that there are comments about this not being a summer release! You are getting it now so be happy! (As long as it works as intended :D)

I can't wait for the previews to see what's included route & activity wise, despite me not being overly interested in steam part of this route is close enough to me I would be able to hear the chuff's & Whistles from my back garden so I suppose I had better buy this for my PS5!

Good luck with the final release build DTG, time for some redemption & show us you can release a route that works very well on day one!

No seriously don't mess this up!!!

Just want to say that despite my annoyance about no pre order discount, this is a route I'm looking forward to. It is 100% going to be a purchase for me.

Presumably autocorrected from "Will it be the same price like any other route?"

I’m looking forward to constantly questioning myself as to whether I have the reverser in the correct position and a thousand other questions about if I’m doing it right. I’m guessing there’s a fully qualified and sober AI fireman to take some of the worry away. I’m hoping Matt and Jamie can collaborate on some ‘how to drive steam’ live stream tutorials soon after release as I feel many people are going to need them.

With 2 in the cab who need to rely on each other, I sense an opportunity to get Sam as critical voiceover when balls-ing up a hill climb or wasting the fire to nothing.

I agree that we don't need another triple summer release of all new routes considering the mess that rush hour released in and the mess that it is still in. It's just isn't worth it again.

I do hope that spirit of steam will release with as little issues as possible. I am not into steam but it would be a shame to see similar issues on this route that rush hour had.

Since this is done, will the German or American route (new on road map) be steam?

36 miles is not a lot but considering the speed won’t be that high, scenarios and services will be long

A big mistake in the announcement, it refers to the route being in Merseyside -

"Working hard on busy passenger and freight services through historic Merseyside and Cheshire you can look forward to an entirely new simulation experience."

This is incorrect, the county of Merseyside did not exist at the time, it was only created in 1974.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merseyside

Liverpool was in Lancashire at the time this route is based upon. I sincerely hope there is no mention of Merseyside in the actual game when it comes out.

I'm finally glad SOS will be released soon, considering the resources used and time taken. But, I must say, I'm quite impressed with the screenshots, looks a promising route which is good.

Something tells me that this feels rushed to a sooner release... and therefore I'm expecting an absolute Bugfest and poor performance on PS4 (last gen generally).

Would have expected that the core updates are coming first ,and in my eyes they should've come before this DLC. I'm really wanting this to be absolutely amazing as i almost can't wait to get myself behind the regulator but my fear is to big that this is (again) a disappointing experience. So I'm waiting for reviews oh this and can't really understand that people still preorder stuff, but that's thier money....

Hope this isn't going to be a 'SOS' situation at all.

Incredible how Spirit of Steam nears finalization and we still haven't seen the preservation update for Peninsula Corridor, which was supposed to be released very soon back when Spirit of Stream was still a big secret. :|

They should take their time. The news about the enhanced bakerloo timetable was a big surprise for me. This isnt directly part of the preserved crew, but we get major improvements in gwe, penninsula corridor and who knows maybe for ntp too.

The metropolitan county of Merseyside was created in 1974 but the term Merseyside for the area was in use long before this so, yes they are correct in using this term.

Was about to say the same thing, as well as observe that there is still no such county as "Clydeside" or "Cotswolds," but the terms nonetheless have been in common usage for ages; and "West Midlands" had been in use for centuries before it became the official name of the Brum conurbation.

I assume you realise it’s potentially close to 18-24months in development for this I guess, comparable to circa 12 for a normal route, if I recollect correctly.

Dont forget that this route was originally meant to be released before HSC as per stream announcements so they did push it back to get more development done

    What's the service count?
Will any of these locos layer onto West Somerset Railway?
Will any West Somerset or Northern Transpennine locos layer on to add buissiness?

A check of Hansard indicates the first usage in Parliament was in December 1919 regarding Merseyside ship repair:

Ship Repairing, Liverpool - Hansard - UK Parliament

EDIT: with a slight change to the filters, I can see that by the end of 1958 'Merseyside' had been referenced 648 times in Parliament.

If you pre order this you are taking a risk imo. it would cost nothing to wait for streams and opinions to come out. I haven't bought any DLC and won't do anytime soon until the preservation updates come out, pity more people didn't do this then maybe we would have a better game.

The Local Government Act of 1958 is where the term Merseyside is mostly referred to in Hansard, and that is due to it being debated as a possible future Metropolitan County with a new name, not because the region was known as Merseyside. I was six in 1974 when we were told in school that we now lived in Merseyide and not Lancashire.

It is not a historic county like Cheshire as DTG's blurb seems to suggest. At the time the game is set the route runs through Lancashire and Cheshire.

Why are you nitpicking the most minor of details, yes it maybe a tiny bit incorrect (or not I'm not completely sure), but how does this affect anyone's enjoyment of the route?

Anything on last gen is going to have issues, because the tech is out of date. I'm sure that DTG will have put in a ton of work just to get it to run in a fairly decent manner on the old consoles (don't forget they develop on high spec PCs so would have to then do more work to tune it down for older less capable machines)
Core updates have been in testing for months, including a limited beta group on xbox from the community.

This route needs to be a winner right out of the gate.If it's a loser or just a 50/50 effort it will further diminish dtg less then steller reputation with it's fan base. It's a make or break moment how will it turn out tune in may 29th and see if it becomes a burst of speed or a boiler explosion.

The impression I get is that DTG are going all-in on this one: partly to restore their tarnished reputation, partly because they see steam as a feature which will attract a significant new tranche of customers (a lot of railfans don't give a tinker's damn about diesel or electric), and partly- a big part - because this is Big Boss Paul Jackson's dream route and nobody wants the Head Honcho ticked off.

I don’t know but I know I heard it in the 1960s when I was at junior school. To my embarrassment, I got confused between suicide and merseyside :o
