in the ts20xx editor, there are all of those already existing platforms from different routes, what's the point of having those if they can't even be used properly?

I think the op means that why can't we have 'blank' generic x number of platform stations that can be used in the editor?

You can use the assets in any route in any other route - it is that way Freeware Routes are made

I mean premade stations like these which come from official routes, they don't serve any purpose (or maybe I don't see it) in the main editor other than inspiration I guess, so why are they even in the editor, hope this makes more sense.

Because they're route-specific assets, those stations are made for the official route that uses them. Sometimes 3D modelling stations is a lot easier than building them from scratch in the editor, especially if the platforms are oddly shaped. So in terms of making custom routes, yeah they're useless, but they were pretty useful for DTG.

Ha! now I know where you are coming from.
You can always build a station / platforms from scratch in the editor to suit your requirements.
That might be a better option for you, rather than using pre-built templates.
    This tutorial might help

another question. is there a way to make the oddly shaped platforms yourself?

  11. With a bit of messing around you can use the pre made stations in homemade routes. Cover the station signs with your own signs etc...

Odd shaped platforms can also be made, again with a bit of messing about. There's plenty of tutorials on YouTube.
